There would not have been Black History Month if it wasnt for these guys...Owens and Louis (and other unsung heroes in the 60s-70s)

When are we gonna have,Hispanic,Asian,Caucasion, months?

I dont see the need to have one seperate month just to single out one segment of the population if we dont recognise the other races with their own dedicated month as well.

Dont get me wrong. I have nothing against blacks or any other race. Flowers, as well as crap comes in all different colors

I'm all for equal treatment.
but I am against special treatment.

If we must have a month for this sort of thing
Why cant we just have a "Cultural History month" where we recognise and celebrate all races and cultures.

Well as if that putz nugget Barry Bonds has not done enough damage by destroying baseball now he goes and has his first press conference on the aniversary of one of the best moments in US sports history. This guy should be taken to an island and left there, he does nothing to contribute to society and then blames it on everyone else.

Those are greay moments too, Zulu but none com[are to the miracle.  It was a depressing time for the US. with the embassy takeover and our timid handling of it.... inflation   etc.  It really was our finest sports moment andnot just for the victory itself.

I don`t know....for me the ultimate sports moment was when Bob Barker nailed Happy Gilmore.

Ouch zulu, that 2nd one hurt. The first one too, actually. Anyway... Did you catch yesterday's champions league games?

I was forced to watch arsenal embarrass themselves, awful game. From what I've seen and heard afterwards the game in liverpool was much better, even though my team lost. Shame I couldn't see it.

sorry for hijacking

Sorry, I was born in 1972 and don't remember how it was...

For Soviet people the greatest moment in sports history was 1972 hockey series, when Canadians thought they'll easily beat Russian barbarians ;) USSR won the Canadian part, and Canadians won in Moscow. Soviet team was too delighted about beating NHL team in Canada that they thought on European (larger) hockey arena there will be no problem, but they underestimated Canadians. ;)

I don't remember 1980 Olympics "miracle", I watched some games on TV but missed the final :(

Another great moment was when USSR won Canada Cup in 81. And then Canadians stole our prize! ;) Hehe, at school our teacher asks us: "Kids, today is a great day, can anyone tell me what is so great abou it?", and one kid gets up and says: "Yesterday Soviet team won the Canada Cup!", and teacher answers: "No, you are wrong! Today it's Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev's 75th birthday!"

I can only imagine the brain washing you poor children went through in Soviet schools.  And don't say we do the same here, because frankly these days many teachers are so anti-American they do nothing but trash the US, not tell kids how "great" the US is.

How about when that gymnastics girl hurt her ankle and then still did the jumpy thing over the horse and stuck the landing and then fell over from her hurt ankle.

Yeah, that was the greatest sports moment in history.

Frankly speaking I mentioned this story (truely a childhood experience I remember now...) to show that we were normal kids, not paying attention to supposed brainwashing. And that teacher was nothing more then a silly hen. Even we, 9-years old kids were laughing at her. You have to understand that it was a common attitude to propaganda. Especially when dummy Brezhnev got his 5th Golden Star of a Hero (hero my ass!) only as a birthday pesent...

This days we have official propaganda line completely anti-Russian too :( Like all that crap from "liberal community" about old Soviet National Anthem when it was chosen again in 2001 IIRC. For me the "Unbreakable Union" is a symbol of our victories in sports. I remember our hockey team standing while in Canada they had to play it when they won... A very touching moment.
