PT boats?
« on: February 27, 2005, 08:52:03 AM »
What ever happened to them? In AH1 there used to be PTs everywhere, i loved shooting them planes down in one.  Latly (when i do play lol) i find that they have become almost useless, anyone know why?

I have never landed any kills while in a PT boat.    I have shot many planes down while in one but never had the chance to land the kills.         How does one land kills while in the PT?     Do you have to tower near the CV?   What if the CV is down?   Then where do you tower or do you ditch?

Apparently they started building them out of compressed
explosives right around AH2 launch.  I don't think I've had
one last past the first bandit's 800 yards out.

They used aircraft engines (at least two, and some, maybe most, with three), and as such, they're full of AvGas and ammo. One spark is all you need. With at least a couple hundred gallons of gasoline in a wood boat with little or no armor, a couple of incendiary rounds can easily explode one. I usually hear a lot of hits before it explodes.

Plus the PT boats are really meant to be used at night to disrupt transportation and supply missions.

Plus the battle groups drive so fast, that it's almost impossible to hit something with the torps!

We need slow supply ships!
