Does anyone else play old military music while playing the game?

I will occasionally play correct period music while on a long mission, or when I am flying a particular aircraft for the evening. I’ve created three folders on my computer that I use to keep this type of music in, separated by country. Currently I have “USA”, “Germany” & “Russia”. This way I get the right background music for the plane I’m in and I’m able to control the volume of the music so it does not overpower the sound effects of the game. I use a headphone/mic combo so this setup works nice.

Do you listen to this type of stuff in the background while playing? And do you have any sites to get it from? I’m hoping to find some Japanese files to use while flying my Kate J

That's a good idea. Haven't done it much myself but music can be important addition, especially played on separate portable system to keep your computer resources free for Aces High.

Prefer marches myself, and be sure to add the many excellent UK pieces like Colonel Bogey and Scotland the Brave.

Favorite U.S. marches that come to mind include American Patrol, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Grandioso, Guadalcanal March from Victory at Sea, Semper Fidelis, U.S. Field Artillery (the Army anthem Caissons Go Rolling Along), and all the U.S. military service anthems like Wild Blue Yonder, Anchors Aweigh and Marine Hymn.

German music would have to include Old Comrades.

Russian music naturally would include Meadowlands.

If we ever get a French aircraft, try Sambre et Meuse. And Algerian Suite's French Military March (after WWII, but close enough).

Plenty of wonderful Italian music, but offhand can't think of most appropriate for Aces High. Ditto for our Brazilian P-47.

I listen to my 40's station on my XM radio.

Its really great when they announce the news, from that period.

I have a CD of wartime music and speeches. During scenarios I'll play it too add some immersion.

Ride of the Valkyries isn't military music. It's an excerpt from the Vorspiel of Richard Wagner's opera Die Walkuere.

If that ain't military, it sure is close enough (e.g., the chopper assault in that bleak Vietnam war movie).

Massive maidens waving big swords on huge horses in the sky don't exactly epitomize flower power.

Nor does the musical genius of Wagner need to be associated with the simple dotted rhythms of military marches.
Association doesn't indicate authenticity.

Many of the march composers mentioned can hold their own in any musical company. Wagner is by no means universally revered; he is often considered pretentious and overstated.

The many uses of Ride of the Valkyries in military motifs speak for themselves. German, Viking, Western, Eastern, Northern, Southern -- what is any music about armed people on horseback if not militaristic?

"Simple dotted rhythms"? In cut time, 2/4 or 6/8? Whatever point is attempted, ROTV epitomizes rollicking rhythm -- and militaristic, too.

Adding some Aces High background music suggestions instead of strafing others' contributions would be much more helpful.
