Couple of Idea's
« on: March 01, 2005, 11:43:03 AM »
Hey guys, cav here and I have a couple idea's to throw out.....

First-  FAILURES...I think it would be pretty cool for HT to add something to the game which would randomly selected players and cause failures to their aircraft.....IE-blown out tire on Take Off, engine loss during flight...loss of a magneto etc....Maybe failures in your flight instruments such as the DG/airspeed indicator etc during the middle of a flight?

My next idea has to do with clipboards...Maybe we could have a clipboard failure?  but then again thats not very realistic, so maybe when in combat if pinged up the clipboard could be ripped to shreds....this would definately make navigation fun lol =)

Finally my last to suggestions are for pure vanity...I would like the aircraft out of te hanger to be...well lets not say clean and shiny...but cleaner than it is...and during the flight its appereance wears, and in specific...once the guns have been fired, then the black grease/oil marks cover parts of the wing....

Also I have seen on some mustangs a cloth covering the gun ports to protect from anything?  i dunno

whats everyone think?

I always viewed vox going out as one of those things that can fail.  Often wondered if was actually part of HTC's programming.  You all know what I'm talking about,  mission takes off then next thing you know mssn leader cannot talk or hear.  I liked it for the tactical complexity it gave.  Command and Control aspect hampered.

I like your ideas Cav, especially the first. Having a sudden electrical failure or something like that would be challeging!

I'd really like to be the guy who delivers all the failures :D

NO!

Why no Karnak????  I will respect anyone's answer but I would like an explanation behind why they disagree???

If we are looking for realism in the game then this would definately take it up a notch...These are modern day problems that occour in all aviation, GA up to military test....

Back in WWII it was very common to take off with a flight of 12 and three of them have to RTB because engine trouble 1/2 way to the fight...also very common very instruments to fail....

I think we should give it a shot

Yep, it was very comon to have failures.

Something that would be cool and realistic is engine overheating. In reallife, you couldn't go full power for a long time.
In aces high, People don't de-throttle unless they're landing.

I just started re-reading Eric Hammel's "Aces against Japan" and was struck by how failures and navigation were so critical to Air Combat.

In the MA though, the fewer "random" aspects the better, IMHO.

I was thinking about ToD, and while I'm interested to see what direction they go with regard to wind/weather/navigation, I really don't see failures as being such a good idea in there either. I mean, I can't imagine sitting in the O'Club, waiting for 10 minutes for a mission to launch, then flying for 20 minutes, and all of a sudden my engine starts to sputter.

Part of me thinks that it would be cool to panic and try to find a safe field to land in. More of me thinks that I'd be pissed at missing the action. :p

Well actually I think the failures should be fixable, for instance; an engine fire: press the fire-extinghuisher within 30 seconds and your engine will be spared?

Electrical failure: pump down the gear by pressing 'g' button lots of times?

Just some thoughts

"i was trying to land my lala with 10 kills and my muffler bearing failed"

oh , the whines...the whines

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
i like the idea , MSFS had that, random failures, you could select a failure rate(0-100), i would fly around until something went wrong , then try to land somewhere safely.

actualy AH has something like that, it's called disco,....lol.

To elaborate, most of us play this game to compete with other players.  We don't want to "win" or "lose" due to an arbitrary computer decision.  This is why the AA fire draws so much ire.

Well then maybe these idea's should be directed towards T.O.D.

There are two types of people in this game....people who like to play a gamey game...and people who like to play a real game...T.O.D. please come soon so we can rid ourselves of the MA Gamers

People who fly Aces High very long now (like me) want something more after awhile. The fighting itself gets boring after awhile.

I don't want to up an aircraft and fly only to have a prop failure 15 minutes into the flight.

I have enough failures caused by bullets. Try fighting your aircraft. You'll get more failures than you know what to do with.

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

what lye-el said... make it a toggable feature. we'll see how many actually use it.

this is supposedly a *game* about a) skill, such as it is and/or b) tactics, such as they are.

as for the weathering during flight, planes usually build up that "weathering" over time not the course of one flight.  spend more time doing stuff other than sitting there watching your plane get dirty.

frank, if you're bored change the way, or what,  *you*  fly. the game is as boring as one makes it.

cav, i hope you enjoy ToD with the other 3 guys who will be regulars - i'm betting the majority of players will only dabble in ToD on an occasional basis. you can show them AI drones your mad skillz!!!
