The mid-plane placement of the radio mast screams Avenger, but I didnt know the gunner's compartment was open like that?

Considering only the Avenger and Vengance had the mid-plane placement, the others ( I think) all had them forward of the pilot, yes.

The 2cd XTBF-1 had a tail fillet added.

Yes, the only Avengers I have ever seen had the round turret.  Which is why my first post read
