Has anybody put together a sheet showing the differences between the 3 models in terms of speed, ammo load, ordinance, range, and climb rate?

I'm pretty close to having that information to update my Aircraft Eval pages with but it isn't quite complete yet.  The J/L models have so far tested almost identically for the most part, the G model is very different.  I have some bits/pieces of data but nothing right infront of me right now.

I only fly the G, but fly with guys who fly the J and L.  With drop tanks the range on the G is very good., comparable to the other two

It doesn't have the outer wing tanks of the J and L so internal fuel is less but it burns less quickly too it seems.

No wep in the G and it's slower then the other two, but that sucker turns on a dime.

To me the L 'feels' the heaviest in the turn and doesn't have the slow speed handling of the G, but that might be just me :)

Thanks for the info!

Here's what I've figured out on my own so far:

P-38G:
WEP: No
Combat flaps: No
Bomb load: 2x1000 max
Rockets: tubes

P-38J:
WEP: Yes
Combat flaps: No
Bomb load: 2x1000 max
Rockets: tubes

P-38L:
WEP: Yes
Combat flaps: Yes
Bomb load: 2x1000 max
Rockets: 10xrails

The G has the worst forward visibility out of all 3 models, but otherwise its the same in all of the other angles.  Although, because the radiators are swept back in the G, the forward/left and forward/right views are better in the G than in the J and L.  I think I'll probably use the G for mostly air-to-ground for that reason.  The G is a good way to build up a perk tally for "Attack" missions.

The J seems to have the lower climb rate but that perception might be off because I wasn't carrying bombs in the G the couple times I flew it in the MA.

All 3 carry external tanks but I forgot to note if the drop tank capacity was the same for all 3.

Ammo arrangement and quantity options seems to be the same for all 3 planes.

Max lvl speed, with wep for P38l/j without for G

       P38l       P38J      P38G

0k     343        343       326

5k     357        356       344

10k    373        373       359

Also the P38G speed is verry close to ki84 without wep, and weped ki is the same speed as P38j at lower altitudes, drops off at 10k.
I measured that with full fuel on take off no externals no rockets, full ammo load. It might be that i am 1 or 2 mph off but not more i beleave.

Soda, when is your new page finished? I am burning to read it checking by your side every second day.

That's very good information, Schutt.  That answers a few questions I had about relative airspeed for each model.  The difference in airspeed between the G and the J is probably due to the WEP.

Thats incorrect.  8 Degree combat flap setting is present on P-38F-15-LO and later models.

I think gofaster meant "dive flaps" and not "combat flaps".

It's been slow going but I'm in the process of a big reno for the site.  Every time I've been close I get some new info or a patch comes out and I have to change something so it's been a bit slow to get posted.  If things go well, maybe I can get it up this weekend sometime.  I'll make a general post when it's put up.

Maybe he meant the 'Dive Flaps' and not the maneuvering flaps.

OK, Murdr, let me correct you!!!
I didn't say anything.... I typed it :)
[ahhhhhhhhhhhshaddupfuzeman!!!]
Qualifying what I meant, maybe he meant the "DIVE BRAKE [SHIFT][C] " function on the P-38s as they are modeled in the game.

Dive flaps would be correct.
