I think its apparent she wasn't a gun control advocate but a media potato.  And she's not unique. I mean why not be a media potato - they can reinvent you in 60 seconds.

In addition I think she blaimed the gun for her son's death and not the problem...hence she was blind to it.

I think you guys would be surprised at the number of people who own guns and won't admit it to most of their friends.   I have cleaned/fixed/bought ammo for  a lot of guns that the owneres told me "don't tell anyone I have this".

Best part was here saying she found the gun and didn't know what to do with it so put it in a drawer... this after the MM people were telling everyone to turn in their guns to the police.

If it's true many gun-control folks don't know anything about guns, then I could understand her not knowing what to do with the gun.  Of course that argument is cutting her a lot of slack.

She may have been afraid to call the Police to come over and pick it up.  Especially with it being illegal and all.  She mighta thought she would be in for a rough time

The Police searched her house on an unrelated investigation involving guns.  And they found that one.  She was stupid to hold onto the gun for sure.

Serial numbers cannot be erased from a firearm.  There will always be an imprint deep in the metal that a microscope can see.  If she was in a lifestyle involving drugs and drive-bys, even if the gangsters lived across the street and she had nothing to do with it, it may have behooved her to be careful about calling Police.

You would think, being a high profile gun control advocate and activist. the woman would have been able to figure out a way to turn the illegal weapon in with the help of friends.  If the neighborhood was rough, and the bad guys found out, she may have been next on the drive-by roster possibly.

Just a thought.

sorry lesli8e... won't hold up.  The million mom people are allways telling people to turn in guns to the police.   She kept it cause she wanted it.   She doesn't want you to have one tho.

But that entire sentence proves that her and other's stance (against guns) is in fact flawed.  They will bad mouth the NRA and other 2nd amendment rights organizations for oposing them but if they'd taken a second to educate themselves they would know THROUGH GUN EDUCATION the best thing to do was to turn it in.

Carlessness through ignorance has killed alot of people (inclucing children) when it comes to fire arms.

I see it like this and I know its a lot of ifs but here goes:

MAYBE her son would still be alive today if the previous owner of the gun that was used to kill him locked it up properly.  By following the same example she's allowing THAT gun to get stolen and be used to kill someone elses son.

This goes to show that banning guns does not work and she is just adding to this cycle.

You do here in Massachusetts.  In order to get that permit you have to take at least one class (at your expense), submit the permit request and fee, then it's at the whim of the police chief as to whether or not you get one.

we have to pass a basic firearm test in California to buy a gun..  Anyone who fails probly shouldn't own a gun.... hell... they shouldn't have been allowed to drive over or use hand tools..

Ah, here we go. I was looking for this thread - the March gun thread. :lol

Wow, was just reading the above, particularly Charon's post about Cook County, as I lived/worked there for about a year (lived in Mt. Prospect, worked for clients in Cicero, Schaumburg, and downtown). What a surprise to see that many Americans don't like guns! I thought that guns formed the yardstick of "freedom", and separated the free world from the rest of the world, and places like Europe languising in the shackles of "socialism". Who would have thought it - guns are a pariah in Cook County.

I'd love to join in this thread, which has all the ingredients of a 5-page slugfest. However, a period of toodle-pippage is imminent, and I shall be away in France. It's that seafood weekend. ;) So have fun, and save some of this thread for when I get back!

Hey there John, I've flown into Albert Whitted field many a time...  I'd hate to see that airport get torn down. Used to love buzzing the Pier on my way out of there... LOL

France? Been there once and didn't like it. People were snobby and didn't carry guns  :-)

Da Mayor like to blame inner city crime on the guns instead of inner city poverty and inadequate policing in high crime areas. As long as can blame guns and get some buy in he doesn't have to do much about the real problems. As for the suburbs themselves, they don’t really face much gun-related crime with or without the regulatory quirks you have in Cook County.  This is particularly the case in most of the areas where you get the strongest support and effort for these bills. It’s kind of a feel good thing, not base on personal experience or fear, for that matter. Most neither fear guns or have guns and it's a real casual thing to be for or against. If, by chance, you tied SUV regulation (can be dangerous, harmful to the environement, supports Middle East terror, unpopular in some circles - popular in others) to any of the gun bills I imagine you would see support evaporate overnight.
