Upgrading Vid Card...
« on: March 03, 2005, 02:10:47 PM »
Heading out to purchase a new Card today.

Currently using a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX 100/200, on a P4 1.8, with 512Mb Ram.

What Card should I be looking for?
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Consider an nvidia 6600GT or 6800.  A 6800GT might be a little overkill based on the rest of your system.

If you don't want to spend what a 6600GT costs, one of the ATI 9800 series cards would be at the top of the last-generation heap.  Just don't buy any "mx" or "SE" cards.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Nope they make all flavors of the 6600 in agp now . If you are going to upgrade the rest of the system anytime soon it prolly not a bad idea to go with a 6600gt . But if your going to go with a whole new system in a year or so maybe a 9600 pro or something in that range, because more than likely your new system will be pciX and you wont be able to carry it over . seen 9600 pro's for around 100 dollars vs 200 for a 6600gt   38

Been very pleased with my 6600GT. Great card for the price. Can run Doom 3 and HL2 at full graphics and get smooth frame rates.
