Tight budget so I  am seriously considering a Gigabyte 7N400S-L Mobo and Athlon XP3200+ combo. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? Any info would be greatly appreciated!, Thx, aztec

here is a good link , there are 3 versions to that board , but they all look to support the same 266 fsb cpu's. the highest you can go is the 3000+ moblie amd xp . ive seen 2600's and 2800's with a 266 fsb , so those should work fine . Hope this helps <> 38

THIS is a responce to an old thread i gave you .... you can go with a 3000+ mobile  with your  board , so there is no reason to get a new board to go to 3200+... not much of a difference

Thx again ruk...your link takes me to an error page though. Can't remember but I think it was you who provided me with the link for the ECS KS75A guide, this is what they say about cpu support for my board;

(Quote):  CPU support
If flashed with the right bios version, all board versions support Duron Spitfires, Duron Morgans, Athlon Thunderbirds*, Athlon XP Palominos and Athlon XP Thoroughbred A/Bs based on a 100 (200DDR) or 133 (266DDR) FSB. The board also unofficially supports the Athlon XP Barton, but you will not be able to boot the board at the Barton's nominal 166 or 200 MHz FSB because of a hardware limitation, therefore you will have to either underclock your Barton or experiment with software FSB changing to run it at 166MHz FSB.

In other words, you can put up to an Athlon XP 2400+ or an Athlon XP 2600+ (only the 266FSB version) on the K7S5A. (End Quote).

So to me a Barton core dosn't seem like a viable upgrade for my current board. Also, trying to find anything above an Athlon 2200+ w/266FSB has been a complete lesson in frustration. That is one of the reasons I thought I'd go with a new board....also for the 8xagp and for its ram capacity...3gigs as compared to my current 1.
 It seems that Athlon64 combos are only priced a little higer than the combo I have picked but I have been told there are few things that are optimized for 64 bit technology.  I'd certainly be interested if anyone can tell me more about these. Thx again ruk...I greatly appreciate your interest and info!:)

EDIT links arent workin for me for some reason ... just search athlon xp's with a 266 fsb at new egg   4 or 5 come up from 2400-3000

here is a link to new egg for 266 fsb proccessors ... i didnt realize that the board was only 4x agp. It;s not a  huge difference thou. The 64 bit proccessors are a big speed improvment even in 32 bit apps. i had a 3200xp and upgraded to a 64 3400+ and noticed a big increase in AH .   GL   38
