Author Topic: Need help !!109-G6/G-10 sub variants (Read 628 times)

Okay I'm doing some research as far as the 109 G6 and G10s are concerned. I've found some excellent panel charts for many different 109 models.

Question is though which variants is AH depicting. I'd assume some models changed specifically from one serial number production to the next. What I mean by that is a 6 digit number series.

I can't find anything that depict the jowles that are on the 109 G6 we have. What variant is this?

Also in regards to the G10 series. I see that some depict a set of lower jowles up near the nose of the airframe. I know our bird doesn't have this. I also know our bird doesn't have the second antenna mounted to the cockpit area. So what variant is it or does it really matter much when skinning here?

I'm trying to be accurate as possible with every skin I do. The local hobby shop is out of 109 books at the moment.

Under jowles, what do you mean, the bulges for the HMGs on the top of the cowling, or the fairings on the lower front, that is only on DB 605 D engined variants? (G-10 and K-4). Those latter are to cover the redesigned oil lines iirc, though some G-10 were built with the more finely shaped Typ 110 cowling, that doesn`t have these small bulges on each side of the lower nose.

The 'second' antenna you refer to was for the radio set, but quite commonly from 1943 onwards the radio was simply connected to the hood itself, the antenna
The other (Morane) antenna you probably see under the left wing is for the Y-radioset - that was a radio guidance system to lead german fighters onto their target, afaik having some connection with the Y geraet used in 1940.

And the German antennaes are FAR superior to allied ones, and are severely undermodeled in AH.

G-10s produced by Erla had a different engine cowl. The oil cooler was different as well.

What G-10 are you doing and what is the Wrk Nmbr and reference photo?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was referring the the bulges. I said jowles because they remind of iguanas when they try buff up when they are threatened.

I just didn't know if these bulges were specific to a set of manufacturer serial numbers. I have been referencing the 109 Lairs panel charts is why I'm asking all these questions. They have the 6 digit numbers on all of their panel line charts.

Here's the aircraft profile I'm doing and an in game shot of it's current status. This profile depicts the swastika only for historical accuracy. I figured the 613 1XX was referring to the panel line set 610300 on the 109 Lairs site.

Angus yeah it will be for AH so long as I don't run into any issues with it. It's taking alot of time just for the panel lines. I'm scaling it pixel by pixel to fit HTCs model. It just has taken me almost 30 minutes just to get the intake under the wing setup properly using a rough guideline setup. Once I get this done I'll take it to Adobe Illustrator and fine tune the lines and scaling even more. That picture is just a very very rough version of it.

Cobra, you really ought to fiddle around with the arena time when taking screenshots.

Those lighting conditions in the pic does your skin injustice.

Kweassa I hear ya. I was just messing around when I did it. Wanted to see how it would look against a night time enviroment. Kind of helps me on night fighter airframes so I can see if I need to scale down the colors some. Which in this case I do need to add a bit of white to tone them down. It's really a rough draft as I said earlier. I'm atleast a week or two away from finishing it.

I'm also working out all the different variants as I go. That way I can just enable a layer and disable another to change variants on the fly from skin to skin.

Well I don't think it's a show stopper but I'm having no luck finding a photo that shows the aileron from the bottom at the moment. It seems in the game the aileron actually hinges further back from where the panel line is in the drawings I'm referencing.

I can see in the drawing where the control rod and housing is which makes sense. But was there no cutoff point at the surface? Should I just do a linear shaded area that goes from black to white from front to back to indicate where the surface actually hinged from and hinges from in AH?

Kweassa here's a new pic. Nothing real different other than all the common panel lines are complete on the bottom of the fuselage now. New rim and tire.

the wing`s camouflage doesn`t seem to me right. This type of pattern was mostly used in 1943 afaik, well before the G-10/K-4 production started. By then it was different, most noticably on the right wing, where that ~rectangular shaped light grey area drawn with straight lines disappeared.

I can recommend you Japo`s 109k Camo&markings for reference, but if you need, I can send a few scans from it.

Kurfurst thanks for the reply. I picked up a few 109 books at the local hobby shop. I have yet to find any that give any good shots of the patterns on top of the aircraft though.

One that does show a G-10 definately indicates some other type of pattern though. It looks like it has about a 3 foot wide area inboard on the right wing that is dark and heading straight back. Then it goes for about 4 feet or so in a light camo where it angles back and outboard. I'm still looking though. If you've got any good photos they'd be much appreciated. Would they look a bit like the G-14 scheme by chance on the wings? I do have a profile for one of those with a top view.

I really appreciate the kind words Ohio. It still has a long way to go before I'll be happy with it.

Here's another update that took me awhile to get right. This is the right wings radiator inlet. Previously the inlet louvers covered the front area of the radiator housing. After looking at some photos there should be some brace areas on the left and right of the housing. Basically about 3 inches thick then it goes back towards the radiator.

I still have to make the louvers look as if they are inset within the radiator inlet housing itself. I also have to make the front side of the housing and door look like they have some kind of curves to them. The door may not be to hard but the housing just to the left/right and to the front of the door will be a pain. That area actually curves off towards the front of the wing. All of those shading details will be done later on.

I'm still tweaking every last line. Making sure they can't go any farther left, right, up or down without smearing onto another object. I know on the sides of the inlet housing that the panel line was at an angle but the is the best I can do. If I tried to make it look angled back it would smear and each pixel would cover the whole side of the housing from where the line started till where it ended.
