Tonight I did some speed runs with the faster fighters. Using E6B, I checked max speed at three altitudes, 28.5k, 25k and 20k.

Results are as follows.

28.5k
F4U-4: 445 mph
SpitXIV: 444 mph
109G-10: 436 mph
P-51D: 433 mph
P-38J: 412 mph
Fw 190D-9: 410 mph

25K
F4U-4: 446 mph
109G-10: 443 mph
P-51D: 441 mph (a bit faster than expected)
SpitXIV: 441 mph
Fw 190D-9: 421 mph
P-38J: 420 mph (within 0.5 mph of the Eglin Field test, @ 420.5)

20k
109G-10: 444 mph
F4U-4: 439 mph
Fw 190D-9: 426 mph
P-51D: 425 mph
SpitXIV 420 mph
P-38J: 405 mph

Note that the Dora is terrific from 20k on down. from about 23k on up, the P-38J is faster, accelerates much faster and climbs better by a significant margin. In fact at 20k, measuring acceleration via time to go from 200 mph to 300 mph, the P-38J is the fastest accelerating prop fighter in the plane set. Its nearest rival is the F4U-4, 1.1 seconds behind. The mighty Tempest is 12.1 seconds behind. Coming in 1.8 seconds behind the P-38J is the 109G-10. About 13 seconds behind the Lightning, we find the La-7 plodding along. Indeed, both the Tempest and La-7 find themselves out-classed at 20k by virtually every other fighter I tested in both acceleration and climb.

Anyway, it is interesting to see how close the AH2 modeling is as relates to max speed. It seems that the AH2 G-10 falls in between the K-4 and data I've seen for a real G-10 (452 mph and 428 mph respectively), almost as if its a hybrid, like the AH2 SpitIX.

I've gotten 447mph out of the Spitfire Mk XIV at 27,000dt and 450mph out of the Bf109G-10 at 22,000ft.

Could you test the P47's up there as well WW?  I'm assuming you left them out of the test, I'm curious how they stack up after seeing the p51 being "too fast" up there.

Yak-9U is also a bit faster than P-38 at 20K, about 409mph.

Cant say the source, but i have in my head that the P-51 did 440 & 25,000'

Well the G-10 was a "hybrid" in reality. Old and new airframes upgraded with the DB 605D engine, of which there were a few variants using different fuel octane and MW50 combinations.
