A question on the 109s slats...
« on: March 08, 2005, 09:18:02 AM »
I tried doing a search on the 109s slats (ok, not a very thorough one, just "slats") and didn't come up with much.

Can anyone tell me what they're there for?  Are they a warning device, do they affect performance in some way that can be maximized for gain, etc?

Right now it just feels like they make me all wobbly.

They come out when you are approaching a stall, and allow you to keep control just a little bit longer than you could without them.  Best discussion you can read on it is in this thread (very long).

The discussion is still ongoing in the Aircraft and Vehicles forum.

The slats increase the wing lift, thus increasing the climb speed (fpm, not mph). Oh, well, English isn't my first language, so I won't go into details.. But go here to read more about the principles. SA2's link was good read also, or you could google something for "Messerschmitt slats", there should be some useful pages.
