Sullie's Official Request 2: Pre-flight joining
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:55:15 PM »
This has two parts, the request and possibilities available after implementation.

What this would be is similar to a mission.  That is two or more people could join together and launch at the same time in an organized fashion.  My proposal would take that one step further.  You would be able to join another player in a vehicle or aircraft which can only really function with multiple people.  This would involve large additions to the game since we don't have anything currently to take advantage of this idea.

For example, in a mission type menu screen, you would join a player who was going to up a goon towing a glider.  The sortie planner would fly the primary aircraft with all joiners taking on the extra feature whatever that might be.  Other possibilities include the rocket powered Ohka kamikaze aircraft, carried into attack range by Betty bombers.  Perhaps most interesting in my opinion would be to have an LST loaded with a dozen vehicles.  This would certainly add a new element to taking a base off a CV, wouldn't have to use LVTs all the time.  Although this would also mean that by destroying a full LST, a player could nab 13 kills or so.  For all these things, a player has to be involved from before the flight is launched.  It would just be silly otherwise, like to have a glider magically appear in tow once over a target.

These are tall orders, and would involve a new version of the game.  But it would add an completely fresh element that would further open up the options on game play and future developmental additions to the game.

Hey if we had the Ohka would that mean we can furball with it getting a score by ramming the other plane to detonate the bomb? Could you see the first AH Ohka only squad dive into a furball and blow up everyone in mid air?:D  Or the same squad on squad night all diving into an airfeild at the same time closing it in one stroke. Or they target all of your CV in multiple assaults of say 12 Ohka diving in at the same time.:aok Or the Rook hoard all flys Ohka at you and your feilds.....WoW.......

Just wonder how you get 20 or 30 guys to fly the tow planes to release the Ohkas. I'd feel kinda sorry for them later trying to survive the pissed off fighters.:)

The Ohka probably isn't the best idea, I'm just using it as an example.  We have a big enough problem defending CVs, last thing we need is rocket powered bombs.

Please, feel free to add any other options that would take advantage of this type of system.

That's one hell of a good idea Sullie, ofcourse everyone has already dreamed of this before, but oh well :) I like it!

Just imagine bombing in LSA....13 kills omg! You could retire after dropping 1 bomb haha!

Thanks frank.

Another idea I had for the LST would be that you can launch them from ports and cruise on over to an enemy base, no CV required.

gliders in RL had a reason (cost), in the MA it's better to just take another C47, but in a scenario they would be good, i like the idea of LST's, maybe with destroyer escorts to cover the landing.

Perhaps the incentive for using a glider is that it would carry more troops than a goon.

Good idea, but why do it? If you could get 13 guys to man a large landing craft, it would be better to have them all go in LVTs to increase chances of success by overwhelming numbers.

Besides, LSTs were not really assult craft, they would come in after the beach head was taken.

Yeah pulling right up next to a base wouldn't be a great idea.  I think what would be found to happen is people would land the LST within 5-10 miles and assault the base.  Basically like a vehicle spawn point without the V-Base.
