Kids say the darndest (most Stalinist) things
By Bill Maher

A new survey found that a majority of high schoolers think newspapers should not be allowed to publish without government approval. And almost one in five said that Americans should be prohibited from expressing unpopular opinions.

Lemme tell you little darlings something: This is my livelihood you're messing with, so either learn the Bill of Rights or you don't deserve Social Security.

Now, to those of you who think I'm overreacting: Yes, I understand that when you're in high school you're still very young and that no one really cares what kids say anyway -- it's not like priests are dating you for your brains.

But the younger generation is supposed to rage against the machine, not for it; they're supposed to question authority, not question those who question authority.

And what's so frightening is that we're seeing the beginnings of the first post-9-11 generation -- the kids who first became aware of the news under an "Americans need to watch what they say" administration, the kids who've been told that dissent is un-American and therefore justifiably punished by a fine, imprisonment -- or the loss of your show on ABC.

President Bush once asked, "Is our children learning?" No -- they isn't. A more appropriate question might be, "Is our teachers teaching?"

In four years, you can teach a gorilla sign language. Is it too much to ask that in the same amount of time a kid be taught what those crazy hippies who founded this country had in mind?

I know, the Morals & Values folks want us to take time out of the school day for prayer and the Ten Commandments and abstinence training and at least two theories of evolution -- the one agreed upon by every scientist in the world and the one that involves naked ladies and snakes -- but, lest we forget, last month the people of Iraq risked death and danger to send a simple, inspiring message: America, get out of our country. But also, we want the freedoms you take for granted.

Now, I didn't mind being on the losing side of the last election. But as a loser, I guess I have some "unpopular" opinions -- and I'd like to keep them.

I'd even like to continue to say them right out loud on TV, because if I just get up there every Friday night and spout the Bush administration's approved talking points, that's not freedom or entertainment. It's Fox News.

Bill Maher is the host of HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher."

Bill Maher used to be funny.  Now he's just an idiot.

Yeah, yeah, .... I enjoyed his earlier non-political stuff.  He was one of those "Did you ever look at it from this angle?" type comics.

He got the fact about the Iraq elections wrong, what makes you think any of the rest of his piece is any good?

I just read a new survey that just came out says many will take your word for it if you start your assertion with, "A new survey that just came out says".

i would be interested to know if this is true.

i somehow got to it hyperlinked
down the line from drudge IIRC.

My favorite part was

Translation:
Man I hate it when young kids don't fall for my liberal BS.

I used to watch his show till he went too political.  It was fun to watch the guests (mostly Hollywood types) try to sound intelligent.
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Like most liberals... ol billie feels betrayed by the "youth" that he panders to.

So... like all liberals he lashes out at em in a truly emotional and effeminate way "dates for priests".

It is a dillema for the left... they need minorities, women and mush headed children to buy their line... they feel they have a lock on "womens issues", minority lackies and..... the entire education system.   It infuriates them when someone steps out of the party line.

It is like when an American jew personality goes agaisnt em... David Horrowitz for instance,   they come unglued and rant and rave and say the cruelest things they can think of.   Blacks aren't "black enough"  now... kids who don't tow the line are "dates for priests"

On the other hand... I allways figure that high schoolers are just growing up and forming opinions and...

who but someone like 88 or some commie HBO exec would even bother to read what billie said in the first place?

How is this untrue? The Iraqi elections were the first step towards ending the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

As for taking elections for granted... this is a true statement, IMHO. Far too many people in this country do not vote.

I think the youth of today are rebeling.

They've grown up in the times where the media aggressively tries to infring it's narrow opinion on them and it doesn't feel right to them.

There might be a day in the future, probably far future, where Freedom of Speech is reigned in more.... and it will be because of how the corporate media groups have abused it to make a buck.

missed that one.  i've only seen one episode this season that i know of.

i find miller far better at the rant.

if im not mistaken, it is actually of of his diatribes from the show appearantly.  i'll have to dig up the source but i dont recall seeing where they got the numbers from.   sorry oboe, forgot to link the source.

at least you watched one martlette, always better to have an opinion having the perspective from which to judge it.

i can respect that.

and here i was thinking that you wouldnt break from fox news long enough to take in another show.

;)

dennis miller is far better at the art of the rant.  IMHO.
