Fulda Gap GV'n in the DA
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:16:16 PM »
OK,

Now this was totally unexpected when I woke up today. But I figured, what the heck, i'll roll to the DA and see whats crackin. After I bomb about 5 panzers that were recieving training from old Tankers, I decided to join.

And woah, impressive. We had 2 sides, 1 that was running a convoy type setup and our side that was setting the ambush. About 20 tanks per size, mixed Tigers and Panzers with icons off.

I was the lone M-16 scout tasked with luring them into the trap. It sort of worked - I got within 500 of the OPFOR and really messed up their order of thinking. Everything that followed was like being a quale - shoot and scoot, zig zag all over the place. After 10 minutes of this the 2 sides met. The 2 OPFOR columns split in 2 with about 2km seperation between the both groups.

They came strong on the left side, but were unable to get good hull down positions most of the time, and they exposed themselves by sitting on top of hills.

I got around 50 minutes of video of the entire event - a few guys on the OPFOR were speaking on open channel and defeating the idea of radio silence. Hell even when I opened up on them from 500 while doing 65 hauling bellybutton across their line the first time, on range VOX it was "friendly fire, cease fire...oh wait...hey, its an M16. Then around 10 rounds of sabot were sent my way and missed thankfully.

Even though it was not an official event, and despite it being held in the DA - it was different enough to warrent a post since actual tanking tactics were in use.

i'll post the video if someone has 6.5 megs free space somewhere.

as much as I think GV should be banned from AH.

It would be neat to have some serious GV'ing.

As it stands. You have to plan a day trip, pack a lunch, take your vitamins, get a full nights sleep, and all that, just to get near a base from the spawns now. And even then you have these newbs rolling lancasters with 14x1000lb bombs salvoing all of them on your single panzer.

Why did you move the spawns so much further away hitech? Just curious.

As much as I suck in a GV, and really just dont like them. It is fun to 1 ping some guys turret and listen to them go off on 200 about the affair.

That activity sounds interesting wolfie. Should post the film.

MMM I agree with that. It gets realy dull rolling over miles of countryside in order to get into the action. Besides which I don't have hours to spend waiting to encounter the action. Gvs just don't cut it f me.

Yes GV's take a lot of patience and at times are at a huge disadvantage from certain planes. Just like Morph here, I think certain things should be banned also, like bombers 100' off the deck dropping 500 bombs on one pice of armor.
Seems so many of the guys cry about wanting the game or "sim" as they call it,  to be "realistic". Mass bomb dropping B17's and Lancs 200' off the deck is not.
I will agree that at times it takes what seems like forever to reach a target or destination in a GV, but I have went on a few bomber sorties and about fell asleep from the sheer boredom.

I still think it's great that AH offers the capibility to allow players to do both ground and air.

Well, usually not much, that's the problem.  Now, if you encountered random young Dutch and French girls in those farm houses...

Maybe in an upcoming patch.
