Just a thought.
« on: March 11, 2005, 10:47:55 PM »
Since we only have 2 Italian planes and no French planes I was thinking.

I was looking though my Aircraft encyclopedia book and found some good italian and french planes.

France:
-Amiot 354  ( in the book says France Finest bomber of WW2)
-Dewoitine D.520 (in the book says it was France best fighter at the start of the war for France)

Italy:
-Reggiane Re 2001 FalcoII and Reggiane Re 2002 Ariete
-CANT Z. 1007 (its a bomber, looks cool, but dont know if it is good)

Well thats all I could find right now. I think these would be good planes to add in the future. We can't forget the Frence guys.

Fiat G.55 Centauro

Nation:  Italy
Manufacturer:  Fiat
Type:  fighter
Year:  1943
Engine:  Daimler Benz DB 605 A  12-cylinder V liquid cooled, 1,475 hp
Wingspan:  38' 10 1/2"
Length:  30' 9"
Height:  12' 4"
Loaded weight:  8,200 lb
Max speed:  385 mph at 24,300 ft
Ceiling:  41,700 ft
Range:  1,025 miles
Armament:  2x 12.7 mm machine guns and 3x 20mm cannons

This aircraft designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli, was powerful, fast and robust and it showed itself to be an unequalled interceptor at high altitudes, and in the air battles which were fought out in the north in the last year of the war.
They came into contact with the best British and American fighters - Spitfires, Mustangs, Thunderbolts and Lightnings.
On each occasion the Fiat G.55 Centauro proved that it was a fearsome antagonist and not to be underestimated.
Compared with the Macchi M.C. 205 the Fiat fighter was considerably faster above 22,970 ft. more modern and more powerfully armed.

This is an exept written by Enzo Angelucci  from his book "Military Aircraft 1914- 1980" translated from Italian by S. M. Harris in 1980

I thought I remembered HiTech saying that he had a boomerang pilots handbook... maybe he was joking

I'd love to see it, it would be the only plane that hte Japanese could outrun! lol.

Yes, but it was great plane considering that the aussies were able pull it out of their bums in such a short period of time.

It does have some redeeming qualities though, very easy to fly, very manueverable, and alot of ammo, and the latter types were well armored. It did very well in Guinea, but this may have been due to the impeccable oganization skills that it was flown with.

It's a shame that they scrapped most of them shortly after the war.
