POSREP Command
« on: March 13, 2005, 07:53:25 PM »
Would like to request a feature that would work as a dot command....  ".posrep"

This command would type out the position report of the player that issued the command, on the text channel used to invoke the text buffer.

The message given would be automatically typed out as follows
"PlayerID - x.y.z, heading A, Speed B TAS at C feet"

where
x.y.z is the standard map and keyboard position
     A is the compass heading
     B is true airspeed
     C is altitude in feet

This command I think would be useful in scenarios and Squad Ops where radar is disabled. The way it is now, position reports can be hard to get, and sometimes the information given is not complete, or inaccurate. At the very least, this command should be available while flying a multi-crewed bomber.

Or you can pay attention, watch the map, learn how to read a map and type it out.

If you read his post you'll see that it's intended for other players who can't/won't take the time to do this.

Good idea, since every trained ww2 pilot was able to give that anwser and it makes lives for the people that do radar controller or similar jobs easier.

Any trained AH pilot able to give that anwser w/o additional commands. If not, he must practice a bit with instrument panel.

Please disable E6B and replace GPS icon with while dot or cross w/o orientation, leave it for TA & DA only.

Yeah, thanks to the VERY detailed map, we don't even need a compass!
It would be much more fun if you'd have to plan your own "mission" before you take-off.

(Not having a map would give a chance to add recon-planes!)

Wonder how guys played before E6B was added (say nothing about other sims w/o compass icon on map).

The only thing I use E6B for is to check what the max cruise settings are.

But like I was saying, it's not hard at all to read a map and figure out where you are (Without the dots on the radar).

I don't use the E6B either, though it's handy for things like bombing.

It's great for all you guys who know how to do this, but as BlueMAKO said, I'm asking for it for the players who do not know how.

It is sometimes very difficult to get accurate information from other groups in Squad Ops these days. Many times the responses to POSREP requests are next to useless.

Just giving 10.3.5 is garbage unless the person you are reporting to is in the same sector. For other people that need to get to somewhere, heading, speed and altitude are very improtant pieces of information that seems to be left out of POSREPs about 90% of the time.

Giving us a command to relay the data without having to type it long-hand in the heat of battle, or when trying to get multiple squads into the same formation would be a great help.

If you give the n00bs a crutch, they'll never get off of it.

Like the way us 'vets' just love to use auto climb or auto speed?
