D 40 actually faster then D11.

Climb rate and high alt performance D11 dead last.

Acceleration D11.....D25 and D40   40 slightly faster.

D11 handles better low......but all three are close.

All very good SLOW speed handlers.  Can make over aggressive enemies auger into the ground whilst you wallow about .

Gun package is super.  8X50 cals break a lot of stuff.

Jug does nothing great....but does all things well.

Err, the D11 is a lighter plane, but the D40 has a heavier engine.

The D40 is faster, but takes longer to get up there.

The D11 is not as fast, but gets there quicker.

anyone who cant land kills in the jug needs to change their fighting style in it.

Jugs are monsters.

on the plus side:

range

guns

ord

stall characteristics.

easy to rope-a-dope

easy to BnZ

easy to turn fight almost anything but spits and the slow TnBers.

skins

guns

Higher you go, better performance gets

looks - totaly beautifull from any angle

history

people confuse you with a noobie JABO and treat you with contempt untill you're shooting all those GUNS at them, glued to their tail.

guns

tough as your grandma and more beefy than Arnie.

guns.

on the down side:

big target

not less than 2 weeks ago i had both elevators shot off, lost a flap and an aileron, and had 3 guns shot out (damn, only 5 left :p) and managed to get her down for a 3 point landing after killing upwards of 5 enemies.

thats right.....no elevators. On the carefull instruction of YUCCA i managed to glide her in and used a little power to level before landing.

I've always enjoyed furballing in the D-11. It's by far my favorite jug. Best thing about it is people underestimate it. Can't hardly see out of it tho. It's a challenge and means more when you get a 'good' kill in it.

As for the comparison part I'm not a good judge as I have not flown the others much. Do plan to try them out over time...

I used to spend a lot of time in the d11. It's a straight up incredible plane, but it's not easy to fly to it's strengths. Successfully flying any p47 requires a very good understanding of reversals, so unless you're getting comfortable with having someone on your 6 you're not going to have much fun.

When comparing the jugs I find that the d40 is the most offensive while the d11 is the most defensive. Success in the d40 is built around trying to be the aggressor while an aggressive d11 pilot thrives in a 1 on 3 doing roling evasive on the deck.

All these planes get their strength from the 400mph flap deployment allowing them to dump E for the quick reverse. This is why you'll see punks like ManeTMP land 10 kills in a jug every time he flys one.

Personally I phear Jugs, as long as its not a huge jug raid.

Every time you see a high alt lone or paired jug near a furball you know its a very good pilot flying it.

Good pilots at high alt in a Jug == leathal.

The difference? The D11 will allow you to get 1 more kill before you die. The point being you're gonna die regardless.

When I used to play AH1 my favourite ride was Jug-d30. Here's my stats on a couple tours, nothing impressive granted but hardly useless for a plane either.

And note these came by furballing, not vulching or 100% cherrypicking.

The first score includes a low alt fight against 3 ponies against me alone - which I won and rtb'd. I think I even have it on film.

Hey siaf -- if you have that film, I'd love to see it. Working on understanding reversal moves, can use all the examples I can get....
