It's close enough! :)

Even a Maß of helles or dunkel bier in the Hofbräuhaus is pretty potent (5.3% & 5.5% respectively).  The fact that you're being served a 1 litre Maß surely helps too!  The problem is that you tend to drink it like a normal pint; i.e. you drink it at about the same speed!

I normally drink dunkel Weißbier or Guinness here in Münich (5.5% & 4.2%).

Have a look at http://www.bierclub.net/bierlisten/bierrangliste.htm which lists quite a few different beers and their strengths.

I must say that British bitters/ales are as good as any, if not better.  You can't beat a good strong ale!  (I'm not one for 'lager', I see it a namby pamby - lager drinking poofs! ;))

It's 6%. Different states have different regulations too. All that's required is that the product be labeled as malt liquor or malt beverage. The quality doesn't have to suffer. The problem is with the public perception of 'malt liquor'. Manufacturers believe that the stigma associated with malt liquor will keep any product labeled as such from being successfull.

Oh, mass produced American beer sucks prettythang.

There are many good small batch beers made here though. Ya just gotta find em.

The distributor I used to work for carried Mythos for awhile.

It is fairly nasty.

Yep. Some of the mini and micro breweries put out some great stuff.
