Form on formations

This would be a very useful tool for squads who enjoy the buff flying.

For example say 8 of my squadies and I are heading for an enemy base in formations of B-26’s. All of a sudden “forHIM” has to go change a diaper. He could type
.formon daddog

and his formations of 3 buffs would form on me. Much the same way the two drones form on me. That way he would be able to stay with us if he is afk for a few minutes.

He could also have the option to
.formonL daddog  (Left)
.formonR daddog  (Right)
.formon6 daddog   (Behind)

and if I had to be afk for a few minutes I could form on one of my squadies till I was able to return.

You could set it so the forming bombers would shoot at the same target if attacked by an enemy fighter and drop their bombs when I drop mine. If there are concerns about squads forming massive groups on one player then limit it to just one.

That's a nice idea.

We always seem to have one guy on our squad who misses the details...like brings 100% gas in a Lanc when we all stated 25%.  Needless to say, we're all riding the stall horn waiting for that guy :)

Well I did not intend it to address the fellow who took too much or two little fuel, but more for the player who had to be afk to answer the phone or something else. That way they would not miss out on a fun, large mission or squad mission.

Picture a long flight out to a HQ and after 45 minutes someone has to be afk for a bit. Would be a bummer for them to lose formation when they make their last turn or two on target or to just get shot down by a fighter that catches him afk. This way at least he would have some protection from his buddies.

I'm pretty sure this was discussed before with opinoins for and against. It's a mixed bag thing that would be good for what daddog suggests, but opens up a lot of abuse possibilities.

Sound great, not that I have had the chance to fly with another group of bombers though...

But to stop ppl using this two their advantage, dont allow them to drop bombs automatically.

I like the idea, but personally I don't believe we should have extra 2 bombers controlled by one person anyway. I don't think that's going to change though. anyway, I agree with the forming up and maybe the use of the formed bombers guns for protection but I have to say no on the synchronized bomb drop.

I'm for it in the sense of it following formation. I don't like them firing with the other bombers however. If I had to take the package with every buff firing or leave everything as is, I'd go with the 1st one. Overall, a good idea that I think would be very helpful. Heck, fighters could even do it sense it's intention is just to stay in formation. Nothing worse than to go afk on a fighter sweep and just as u do the group turns and your lost. Good idea!:aok

Rgr. They could take out the auto fire with the other bombers and not allow them to drop with the other bombers. Thay way they just stay in formation.

I think adding this would take something away from the game.

With the current spawn system everyone can take off at the exact same time.  This gets rid of the need for gathering points which were used during WWII because of how stretched out the bomber groups would be after initial takeoff.

You also have the auto climb, auto speed and auto leveling system to assist you in dialing in a formation.  You also have the auto 3 man buff formation option.

When I first started playing this I went on a mission with I think the AKs.  Everyone just got as close as they could to the lead formation and formed a diamond.  The target on that mission was a ammo factory I believe approximately 2 sectors away.  Once we all got fairly tight and on the correct heading went auto level and then he called out the predesignated rpm and manifold settings.  We made no more than 1 turn to line up and few minor adjustments once on our final approach.

The only person who calibrated in this mission was the lead formation.  The second he got cross hairs on the target he pickled and called it out over vox.  Everyone in the whole formation then released their bombs.  Surprisingly enough we leveled the place in one pass missing maybe a few buildings.  I know I hit atleast 15 objects.  It was my first time ever doing such a thing and it required very little knowledge to accomplish the mission.

With the current system it should be easy to setup such a formation.  It's just a matter of taking a little extra time to get lined up and a good initial flight plan.
