Large hangars just off runways
« on: March 17, 2005, 08:19:37 AM »
I've noticed a pair of large hangars just alongside the runways in a certain type of airfield on the new maps.

Anyone know why the change?   Can you spawn from them?

I think it would be great if they were implemented as repair hangars - you know, pull a damaged bird in and get your radiator leak patched, or a new flap or elevator fitted..kinda like this:

I think one is a fighter hangar one a bomber hanger, so the hangers are no longer in one line on small airfields and can no longer be bombed in one straight pass. Comunity asked for it and i must say its better.

Weather the large ones your refer to are just decoration or you talking about the bomber hanger moved to there i dont know.

This totally ruins my ability to single-handedly shut down any sort of fun people are having furballing by suicidally divebombing my B24s. I hate this!

I think oboe has a cool idea.  Land a damaged bird at a field, taxi it to the hangar & wait 60 seconds (pray that the hangar doesn't get bombed) & voila...you're ready to launch in a fully repaired bird again.  Grins cross the faces of perk potatos and furballers would love the chance to accumulate mass-murder sorties.  :)

Can it be done by HTC?

"In" like you think it's a neat idea?  Or "in" like you think this thread will be locked?

probably likes the idea, no reason for it to be locked.

I've never really understood why people keep asking for this: from the historical perspective it's a bit silly and from the point of view of a furballer it's a waste of time: just dump the plane and up a fresh one. It would give the bomber guys more reason to pork hangars though.

I'd really like external view enabled for fighters while you are on the ground; that way you could walk around your plan and watch the bullet holes get repaired and watch the new pieces fitted.   If the base is threatened with attack it just adds to the suspense.

I'm not sure that 60 seconds would be enough to repair the birds I've been bringing home lately :)

2 new engines installed, a new fuel cell and a right aileron.  Heckuva pitstop to get that bird up again

i can deal with the fuel and ammo in 30 seconds i suppose, although even that it quite the pit crew.

Gamey?   At first I did think it was, then I thought about it and changed my mind.    I sort of approached it from the opposite direction-- I decided it was probably more gamey to bring back a damaged bird, exit flight and jump back into a completely repaired plane in less then 5 seconds.    With repair hangars, those who want to can wait around for a bit for repairs to be done.    So it seems a little more immersive, which to my way of thinking is the opposite of gamey.    One good thing is a change like this would have no effect on those who who weren't interested in using it - so it preserves freedom of choice.

60 seconds for repairs isn't very realistic, but neither is 30 seconds for refuel/rearm, or flying 3 minutes to a fight.   Time has to be compressed to keep people from getting bored...
