Help HTC find the vox-loss bug
« on: March 18, 2005, 11:30:56 AM »
Hi all,

If any of you would like to help us track down the vox-loss bug please follow these steps:

1) Start (or restart) filming - r toggles the filming on and off. We will eventually use this film to narrow our search.

2) Type in chat "Lost Voice" - To avoid bugging other players you might want to type it into the chat channel that would have the fewest players tuned in: private, room, squad, country, all.  When we see this in the film we'll know when to start tracking.

3) Message "Lost Voice" over your microphone - This is so we trace it to make sure it's gets all the way to transmission.

4) Ask those within range to transmit a vox message and confirm message sent over chat - It should be obvious what we'll get from that :)

That's really all we'll need to help narrow down the search for this ellusive problem.  If you're so inclined, you can include the following optional steps but, if not, stop recording.  That way we can keep the film file size minimal.

(Optional)
5) Type .resetv to reset vox, and then type "resetv" in the chat buffer - so we know the test is continued.

6) Repeat steps 1 - 4

7) Stop recording

That's it.  If you could then send the film file as an attachment to

sudz@hitechcreations.com

I'd very much appreciate it.  Hitech and I will delve into this and hopefully flush this bug from its Escher-inspired hiding spot.

One last thing.  Monitor this board - I'll put up a big "STOP" once we have enough films to tear into.

Thanks,
- sudz

A little note that might help?

My squadies sometimes lose vox.  Yet I can't recall the last time I lost it.

My squadies are running WinXP I'm running Win98SE.

Anyone else running Win98SE????

Anyone else that's running Win98SE and ever lose vox?

Thinkin it may be one of those buried WinXP commands?  You know the kind that shuts stuff off or sometimes does something and other times doesn't?

The kind you've got to set in 4 different places in order to get it to work the way you want it to.

Just a thought.

Win98se here. Loose it regularly in TA. This regards range channel in flight which I usually use in the TA.
Would DxDiags help? I assume they would and you'll probably ask certain people who's films prove helpfull in finding the dadburn lil insect.

I run Win XP and I too can't remember the last time I lost vox.   It's got to be either driver related or hardware related.   Might be a good idea to see what hardware is being used in relation to vox failure.

W98SE here, have never lost vox.

Maybe sound card is a commonality? (SB16 here)

I run XP and rarely lose vox. But I can tell you that if you turn "Sound 2" in DxDiag down or off (even if you don't use it) you will have trouble in all vox enabled programs.

I use XP, have noticed the exact same thing. When numbers are high 450+ VOX is likely to go out for many within 30 mins or so. If the numbers are over 500 there are alot of warps in addition to VOX going out...

I notice a quick white screen "flash" when I engage transmission in vox sometimes.

Anyone else see this brief white screen flash?

This might be totally unrelated, and be perhaps coz I don't understand how the vox is supposed to work, but I once was receiving vox from a player when neither the range (F12) or .radio 5 (T) were tuned into anyone at all according to the chat box thing.

cheers

DrWig, he may have tuned radio 5 to you privately. If he did you wouldn't see his name in the message window, brough up by the / key, or in the Voice box, the box showing tuned and range channel and the people on them.

When I loose Xmit capability I usually recieve AOK. I sometimes get graphic glitches. IIRC, the square tic tac toe box around the deploy letters goes away and when I hit t or F12 to Xmit I believe I see a change in my Voice box area. 9 of 10 times when I exit to relog I get the 'Try alternate route' and the 'lines' on that display are corrupted similar to the tic-tac-toe deploy thing. Most times this requires a computer boot to clear and reconnect.
