New News :)
« on: February 22, 2001, 04:05:00 PM »
This is great!   Thanks HTC!

Work on 1.06 has been ongoing and we're coming to the end of this development cycle. We still have a lot to finish up but we should be able to hunker down and get it done and out the door before long.
There are new screenshots at www.simhq.com  that shows some of the new stuff that we've been working on. There's a lot of new planes in 1.06. We've shown six so far- the Tempest V, La-7, Yak-9T, Ar 234B, Fw 190F-8, and the Ta 152H. We have another two under construction so it looks like we'll have a total of eight.

There's also a new terrain for the main arena. There is a central sea and a carrier task force for each country but it is a more land oriented terrain. We'll be swapping out this terrain with the current one every tour.

Some of the other new things we've been working on include:

A new system that lets you quickly and easily send "check six" calls to one of your allies using a single button operation. This sends a text message and plays a sound file at the same time.

The arena setup menu has been greatly expanded to make it much easier and intuitive. This primarily helps CMs but much of it can be used offline and in H2H.

We did some work on compressibility effects in the flight model. The effects of wave drag and buffeting have been added.

Added a vibration effect when firing guns.

Added beaches/coastlines.

Added a sun effect.

An additional cloud system for doing large cloud layers. The current clouds are not designed for this type of use so it requires an additional system to do that. This is currently in development and may or may not make it into this next version. Some screenshots of how this is shaping up will follow this post in a separate thread.

With the new cloud layer in effect.  You will now see fighting at higher altitudes.  This brings a whole new deminsion to the sim.

Those clouds are quite simply the coolest graphic I have ever seen in any game.  If they don't hammer framerate, AH just sunk another hook into me...

Good stuff guys!

"Added a vibration effect when firing guns."

Is this first stages of FF, or increased shake of plane when firering?

Cool!

I wonder if they will be a right mouse click like in warbirds.

The clouds are real cool!  Does this mean I need to upgrade my pc again?  Hope the fps are still flyable.

Oh, and 66 Ozark

why do you say that snafu ? i never use the padoc view at all . and really thought the mouse version in wb worked great. ht said it would be padoc view online . sounded cumbersome to me . what is your logic? err motivation.

towd..

Padlock I don't use either, but I do use the target selection so tht I get a box around the Icon I am interested in. This really helps when trying to shoot the same chog when there are 4 or 5 of them all at once

Anyway, if the 6-calls work the same, it will be a matter of just cycling through the freindly cons and then pressing the "6 call" button. Fast and real simple. No need to take your hand off the stick to do it (providing you have a programmable stick and a free button or two)

This will be a real nice option.
