Another question... winamp

Doea anybody runa winamp type program to play mp3s while playing AH. I used to when playing my last game...

Does it degrade performance at all

I have a 2.1 ghz amd
512 mb of ram
Radeon 9600 all inwonder
sound on the motherboard  thingy

With onboard sound it's likely to cause stutters but with a good audigy card it won't affect the game at all, I do it all the time.

Running any program in the background is going to have an effect on a game.

Especially any program which has to to decoding.

Y'know whats strange, I actually get a slightly better framerate with Winamp 5 running.  Feels smoother.

Aubrey, I ran Winamp for a LONG time prior to buying my XM radio. I did have alot more vox loss when using winamp, than I do now running the XM radio (station #4, the 40s for in period music).  :)

I'm recommend you use the 'line in' port on the sound card and hook up a walkman or something instead. Again, its not that it really affects performance, having something running along side in Windows just screws with vox.

You definitely do not want to use Windows Media player, that thing is a pig on resources, winamp is a much better choice if you're still willing to risk vox loss.
