So what do you propose we do now, Manedew? Just up and leave Iraq to fend for themselves? I was as opposed to this as anybody, but part of the reason I was opposed to this is because I recognize we have to see this through once we start it....and I was afraid a wishy washy American public, regardless if they were pro or con in the beginning, can doom our mission with demands of an "exit plan" or other such nonsense. We started this, now we have to see it through.

There is definitely no probably about it.
To gain maybe...ummmm peace of mind. To gain maybe the fact of not sitting on our honchs and waiting for it to be fought on our soil.  To gain maybe honor. To gain the right for people not to be pushed around and bullied by an insane dictator. Peace of mind, respect, etc, etc.
Freedom and democracy are never cheap. Never has been, never will be.
We have paid far higher prices before by letting things get out of hand. Now we are taking care of business as it should have been taken care of long ago. It`s not a choice of either do it or not. That choice was over a long time ago. Now it is just a choice of when and where.

Democracy is two wolves deciding on what to eat. Freedom is a well armed sheep protesting the vote.
