Barry Bonds interview
« on: March 22, 2005, 08:29:24 PM »
Man, this guy is falling apart physically and mentally.  He's going to be out half, maybe all this season so that means he may not catch the HR record, the steroid scandal, the overall wear and tear of baseball.

Not a happy man in this interview

I'm not sure if the video link works, if not, it's on http://www.mlb.com

Ok, I tried to link the video direct, it wouldn't do it.

yeah he sounded pretty down and out, of course blamming it all on the media. I for one took some satisfaction in knowing that mabye he realizes for once he is not almighty. You cant go around taking illegal drugs, having mistresses and being an bellybutton and expect to walk on water forever. I can def. see why he is so down, first you got the whole leaked grand jury thing, so you got the media hounding you about that, then comes the mistress talking about the money, then there is the balco trial which for the most part we have no idea what is going on. I mean he could be in some serious trouble there so im sure he is not feeling well about that and finally add on 3 knee injuries, I would be cooked too.

Well, as we all know, anyone can make a claim...seems to me people enjoy kicking others when they are down. This ass-hat of a mistress is only looking to cash in. nothing more.

He blames the Media?

Who took Steroids from BALCO?

Who had a mistress for 9 years?

The Media reported it.  They're to blame for reporting the News?

I remember when he was a rookie in pittsburgh.  Looked more like Kenny Lofton then Conan the Barbarian.  He was a 30HR a year man at best.  He's always been a liability in the outfield.

A report on ESPN this AM discussed how many HRs were hit by the best in the game after reaching 39 to 40.  Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.  In each persons instance when reaching 40 the most anyone hit as I recall was 12. Ruth hit 30 something at 39 I believe but never hit more then 12 after hitting 40.  Now in my opinion Bonds is not in the same category as Ruth, Aaron, or Mays.  In 1968 the pitchers mound was dropped because pitching was very strong in that era.  Some team batting avgs. were in the .240 range.  However....the best were still hitting .300.  Mays, Yaz etc were still doing well.  Pitchers mound hasn't been moved since in my recollection.  And the bandboxes they've played in for the last 20 years has helped boost HR numbers.  Also the talent in the leagues are greatly diluted.  To many teams....not enough talent.

Barry Bonds has Barry Bonds to blame....not the media.

how many years ago was he a rookie in pittsburgh?  over 15?   of course he wouldnt get any bigger over that time.  he may have taken roids for about 3 years.  fact is he is still a first round HOF inductee.  yea, he has been an arse to the media, last i checked he gets played to play, not be nice to media type.
when hank got close to the babe, he started to get hounded, now that bonds is getting close, the heat has been turned up.  hmmm?  and of course his HRs have went up, played in 3 rivers, terrible HR park, now he is in a park built for him to hit HRs in, and he does.  now, im not saying his numbers would necessarily of went up like they did(HR numbers) but they would of went up.  and as somebody mentioned, the talent is definitely not what it used to be, especially in the pitching department. ok, im done.
Karma, it follows you every where you go...

True, but they can turn a long double into a home run.

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure that Gehrig, Ruth, Cobb, Wagner, etc. never had to submit to a drug test.

Who knows what they were taking?

Babe Ruth may have taken just about anything he could get his hands on, but I seriously doubt steriods would have been on his list lol.  He was a great ball player, but he owed his physique to beer and whiskey, not steroids.
