Ok Guys,
Some slack here for the newbie! The grids on the main map are shown as 19-6 and 19-5 etc etc, Why are people describing the grids as A5 or 299 etc? And how do you work it out?

I asked the same thing. I was told that the grid is given as to the number on the map then they put in what key it would be on the keypad so they give it as soemthing like 15 8  6

A5 or V199 refers to Air Base 5 or Vehicle Base 199.  There is also a "P" for port where the carrier (cv) groups spawn.

The 3 number grid reference 6,3,7 refers to grid 6,3 keypad 7.  This breaks each grid down to 9 squares numbered like a keypad on a phone.  In this example the lower left corner of grid 6,3 is the area of interest while 6,3,5 would be the center of the grid.

OK take your example 19-6 now imagine your keypad over the 19-6 grid. If your in the center of the grid your location would be 19.6.5 and if you were in the north east corner of the grid your location would be 19.6.9 and so on. The idea being if you are reporting the location of enemy ships or enemy planes to other friendlies you can dial in the location within the sector.

If I am understanding what is confusing you correctly, here is what you need to do. Right click anywhere on your clipboard. In the list that pops up, click on "field names". This will put a check mark by field names and field numbers will then be shown on the map.
