If I were to guess, I'd say thats a grey p38 and the picture makes it look blue.. Just look at the puddles on the ground. I hope I get proven wrong though cause a blue 38 would be pretty cool..

Top one isn't blue.  It's the regular OD/Gray.  It's a P38F, assigned to the 56th FG, while they were stateside, before converting to Jugs if my memory hasn't completely failed :)

No blue fighter P38s, just recce birds.

There was a haze paint scheme for the early recce P38s, before they went to the overall blue and then NMF finish on the later ones.

This is a haze scheme on an early recce Lightning.

THis is why the debate has raged for years about the NMF 361st FG P51s that had camo applied to the wings and top of the fuselage.  Lots of people will swear it was blue camo, but it was OD or RAF dark green.  The photos can be interpreted to make it seem like it was dark blue.

This of course makes no sense, as they were camo'd on top for D-Day and the low level work they were going to be doing.  Dark blue wouldn't have been much help over a green countryside :)

It's a "Photo Joe" Lightning.  No guns.  Not a fighter variant.  Might be fun to do for offline, but I'm fairly sure HTC wouldn't accept it, unless they let us have an unarmed 38 to fly recce missions :)

Nope, just the color in the photo being off.

It's a regular OD/Gray P38F

Green is made up of blue and yellow. In old photos the yellow fades or washes out with age leaving the blue to show through as the more dominant color..

Here's a pic of II./JG27 109s. Notice the Rumpfbands as they appear blue. In real life they were green:
