Thanks for the site, Drediock. For me, Tank and BiPlane started the whole computer gaming thing. And then Missile Attack.

And not too long after, wonder of wonders, Air Warrior (free floppy disk shareware -- what's this? what's an internet? what's a server? ... and worst of all, what's local long-distance phone charges?).

If u can play aces,your pc will handle mame no trouble.

I've tried off and on for over 5 years and just couldn't figure it out. List the steps that you have taken to get it to work and I wil do the same. Let's say the computer is ready to go, what do I download first and then what do I do after that?

Being a poor kid I never had the money to play alot of coin ops till I was posted overseas in 1988. We had a dozen games in the mess and I played rygar warrior and drank paralyzers for hours and hours. By the end of tour most of us could play it for an hour on a quarter.

Run the binary exe from the link, it should extract to a folder of your choosing called Mame32
In the folder is a mame32.exe (icon looks like an arcade cabinet) double click that to run mame.
What you do need first are the original arcade Roms. These are easy to find, and are extremely small files ie. asteroids is 26kb. You can google for MAME roms, or try these sites: Da Mame project (it's in spanish - but click the rom option upper right, and the downloads in english) Rom world (don't bother voting, the files still d/l and work)

Download the rom zip file (leave unzipped) into the rom folder in your Mame32 folder, run the mame32.exe, click on available games in the mame32 shell - it should list all the working games you've downloaded
ie.

- double click that game name and off you go...remember to start most games to hit "3" on your keyboard to put in credits, and 1 or 2 for players..
There are options for joysticks, mouse control (for Missle command etc)

No, I'm saying the 24 hours figure sounds kinda like rationalization. Got a source? I always figured it was pretty cut & dry. You either got it or not, the police don't ask how long the material has been on your system.

Sure, but like you said, that's 'just some guy'. Most US copyright law is pretty straight forward and doesn't have little 24 hour clauses (the same way nature doesn't have a 'eating while standing' clause regarding weight loss).

I'd assume that having the ROMs on the machine at any time would be technically in violation, and that people should assume that. That said, there is essentially zero enforcement on this. On a completely unrelated note, I built a MAME controller myself using an I-PAC encoder and parts from Happcontrols.

Some buddies and I have been pretty hooked on a new arcade game.. Golden Tee. Most bars around here have it. Nothing like getting a couple pitchers and seeing who can hit the white ball as hard as possible...and I mean litteraly, they have a white "centipede like" ball that you use to control the club.
