The Garrand takes it's gas from nearer to the muzzle and is a more accurate weapon..

Removable magazines was the big improvement.   Not sure that a .308 is much of an improvement over an ought six either except for bulk.

Some experts say the self-adjusting gas system increases reliability, and for that it is considered by some to be "improved".

.308 is considered by most to be a better caliber with regard to weight savings and reduced recoil.

Yes, the M1 is accurate, but personally I dont think any more than the M1A.  I dont know personally of too many shooting 1000yd events with the Garand myself.  I am sure it could be and probably is done by some.

Wrong!  Common common misconception.  The M1a is not the semi auto version of the M14.  The M1a is the semi auto remake of the m14.  You cannot change parts between the two.

The m14 was such a fine rifle that the civilian demand for it sky rocketed.  But one of the things the government told springfield was that they had to make it so that the parts couldn't be interchanged.

I.E. You can't drop a full auto reciever into an M1a.

Nice rifle, congrats. FYI, Garands have been in use at the Camp Perry matches for many years alongside M1As and can still be purchased in "National Match" configuration.

Not sure where you got your idea here, but yes, almost every part of the M14 is interchangable with the M1A.  The only differance is the removal of the ability to select full auto fire.  The original 35000 or so M1As built by Elmer Balance in Devine Texas were rewelded M14 receivers that were modified to prevent the full auto selection.  (Elmer was the guy who started building the semi-auto M14, he secured ATF approval to sell it that way, after he sold the his company it later became "Springfield Armory Inc, not to be confused with the government Springfield Armory.)

Currently produced M14 type rifles (the name "M1A" is owned by Springfield Inc ) share virtually all parts with the military M14 except the receiver and full auto selector and rod.  The interchangable parts include the Op Rod, Bolt, trigger assy, sights, barrel, stock, gas system. etc.

BTW, you dont drop a receiver into a rifle, the receiver is the rifle, you drop parts into it.
