An Etiquette for Grief

I end up reading a lot of stuff along these lines, most of it is useless. This on the other hand is useful...

Glad to hear it.

Hoping y'all don't need to refer to it very often,

An Etiquette for Grief

I think everyone deals with grief in their own way, but I disagree with the controlling tone of that article Seagoon.  It is full of "shoulds" and do's and dont's.  That is not sincere to me, and does nothing but blame people for not writing letters and saying something comforting.  If they try to, that's not good enough.

I'm sorrry, but I just distrust articles that point fingers and believe we don't know anything about grief.

With all respect,

Les

Les,

The link was originally sent to me by the fiancee of a young officer whom I knew through Sunday School who was killed by an IED in Fallujah in 2003. She was devastated by his death - they were planning on marrying as soon as he finished his tour and she had already quit her old job, found a new one, and moved in order to start setting up their home. He was a fine Christian man who planned on going to Seminary when he finished his service. She forwarded it because she found all of the things mentioned in the article to be true of her situation. I can tell you from my experience in grief counseling, funerals, and visitations that most of the advice rings true, and many of these items of advice are things that I have found out the hard way.

If I were you, I wouldn't view it as a draconian list of instructions that must be followed to the letter, rather receive it as common sense advice.
