referring the the potential tragectory of a piece of lumber being ripped.
one of my students once proved this theory much to the dismay of the project on the table behind it.
I worked for a guy that did something similar once though with a peice of metal doorframe.
Was a Fire rated door co and he was customising part of the doorframe for a job.
he was trying to rip it lengthwise by turning a radial arm saw sideways.
Didnt look like a good idea to me but I was only 18 at the time and he was the boss so who was I to say so.
Well next thing I knew I heard a Whoosh sound and a big thud. and hearing the boss yell "CHIT!" I turned around and saw this nice hunk of metal about 7 feet long sticking halfway out of the wall. the other half had gone completely through 2 layers of 3/8 inch sheetrock
