Agreed, my Mum knitted me an exact replica scarf many years ago, I probably still have it in one of the boxes in the garage somewhere.

Tell those of us who can't get the Beeb if the new one is any good.

Oh, and Sean Connery is James Bond.

Doctor Who - New Series tonight!!

You know your getting old when you can remember all the way back to the first series.

I thought the BBC canned Dr Who for good, cause it was to exspensive to make or something like that.

It's good too see it's back.

Well, I must say that I was impressed!  It definitely left me wanting more and I think the storyline catered both for adults and young children.  The basic story was a little cheesy but it was like an old Auton episode from the early 70s.

As for Ecclestone as the new Doctor.... he pulled it off!  He's immediately better than four previous doctors straight away!

There's been quite a few special programmes about the new Dr. Who that includes clips from future episodes.  They all look good, especially the special effects and the new dalek looks superb!  Oh, and the new TARDIS interior rocks! :)

Here's a clip from the first episode:

Tom Baker? Blech! AFAIC, he represented the start of the slippery slope. I preferred guys like Patrick Troughton. William Hartnell was good in the role, and Jon Pertwee played in some good series in the 70s.

Peter Cushing played the doctor in the 1965 movie about the daleks, with Bernard Cribbins as his side kick.

Many aren't as old as you Beetle! :lol

Jon Pertwee was okay, but Tom Baker was the funniest/most enjoyable for me.  Douglas Adams even penned a few stories for Doctor Who as well, including one of my favourites "City of Death".

Bernard Cribbens (great actor!) was only Doctor Who's side kick in one of the two Doctor Who films.  Peter Cushing played 'Doctor Who' rather than the 'Doctor'.

Yes, you did! :)

I only ever saw a few Hartnell/Troughton episodes and back then BBC B&W wasn't the best quality (in terms of picture quality) to keep me engrossed in the story.  Maybe someday I'll get to see some more!

Not only that, but the effects and sets were pathetic compared to what can be done today. The sets used to wobble, and when the actors fluffed their lines, the flufstudmuffine was left in! The effects consisted of changing the picture to negative when someone was being exterminated by a dalek.

The best 1960s series were "Daleks Invasion of Earth" (Hartnell), and the two which took place underground - the Yeti in the London Underground (Pertwee I think) and the one about the cybermen who were moving around via the London sewers.

The Pertwee series (1970-74) was the first DW series I saw in colour.

Pertwee was okay, but I really disliked all the U.N.I.T. stories; it really spoiled Dr.Who.

Beetle, out of curiosity, do you like Will Hay?
