GF FX9500 Ultra. What driver to use?
« on: March 23, 2005, 01:46:45 PM »
I was using driver version 61.77 for my GeForce FX9500 Ultra, when I notice the new version is 71.84

But as my card is not so new anymore, I wonder if I still benefit from upgrading the driver

Any ideas?

Do you mean 5900?  If so, then use the 61.77 drivers and don't even bother checking for updates.  NVidia has focused its attention on the NV4x family (FX6xxx) of parts and the drivers are reflecting it.

It can actually be detrimental to upgrade for the FX5xxx cards.

Hey Skuzzdude, do you have a recommendation for the ATI-9600XT card?  which would be the optimal driver?

So you recommend 61.77 for FX5XXX cards? I did notice 71.84 killing my framerate on Brothers in Arms as well as generally being a problem.

61.77 is the best driver you can use for 5xxx series cards.  I use the Omega drivers, but even the standard Nvidia drivers of that issue are ok.  Anything beyond that ignores the 5xxx series cards and focuses on the 6xxx series cards.  Depending on your system, the video card, what day of the week it is, whether your socks match or not..........any of these things can cause the newer drivers to actually decrease performance with the 5xxx cards.
