Time in causes lag
« on: April 01, 2005, 07:06:22 PM »
Of late, the longer I'm in the game online, the slower my computer gets. For instance, the text lag gets longer or changing from base to base takes longer to happen. Even launching to runway, or whatever, begins to lag. If I restart my computer, the lagging goes away for a while, but returns. Normally, when I restart, the computer responds in about 5-10 seconds. After playing AH for 2 hours, this response time is 1-1.5 minutes. Other functions and programs display this same lag. After the restart, everything works normally.
This is suggesting a major memory leak in my opinion.
Please take a look at this possibility.
I thought I was important until I got Cancer and had to go to a cancer clinic.

Check out your Task Manager for odd programs. Check what they are here.

Run all the standard Spyware/Adware searches on your computer. AdAware, Spybot, ect.

Use FSAuto Start before each running of the game. This program stops un-needed services and tasks, launches the game, and restarts the services again if told to.

Disable AV/Firewall software before entering AH. MAKE SURE NO OTHER PROGRAMS THAT USE THE INTERNET ARE RUNNING.

Don't run P2P programs at all. Skuzzmiester's tests have shown the P2P's mess up systems for an extended time. P2Ps are Kazaa, iMesh, ect.

Check that all of your drivers are up to date. Check with Skuzzy about his preferred driver for the nVidia FX5??? series.

It is not that. Been flying since AW classic. I'm at 98% free when I start. It also seems to be tied in with vox. It is as if the vox buffer is not clearing itself. Or maybe text, or texture........?

Hey Stega!

Still running 98SE?  Have you done any driver updates recently?  Some of the proggies that come with the newer generation drivers might be causing your resource leaks, since they dont really optimize drivers for 98 anymore.  Just a thought.  Could be an ingame leak too, but I'd think if you haven't had the problem until recently that it's an outside thing.  I used to have the exact same problems even in AW, and it was usually a driver that wasnt properly optimized.  My sound card drivers caused it one time, another was when I switched from a Rage Pro video card to a Voodoo3 16MB card.  The original Voodoo drivers caused a resource leak when I played AW.  Updating the drivers fixed it.

Sorry I cant think of anything else that might help ya.
