AAR Colors of Fall Frame 2
« on: April 08, 2005, 11:55:21 PM »
332nd was slotted to escort IL2’s (U.S.M.C.) to target in La5’s. We flew south then west over 76. Engaged several 109’s and 190’s and shot several down with the loss of one pilot. U.S.M.C. headed back east to rearm. We took up station over the flak factory. Sent 4 of our guys to rearm.  A single lone hunter 190 caught one of our guys at 20k and downed him. I chased him back west, but had to rtb due to fuel. When the first of our group was back at station over the flak factory the rest of us also landed and rearmed. Soon after that we had some Ju88’s with 190 escorts come in. Climbing up to them was tough. I was jumped by a 190 and forced an over shoot. Missed an excellent shot (really should have bagged him) and tried to do so again as he was booming and zooming me two or three times. Finally some of his cannon shells hit and I had to run for it. He drove after me to finish me, but was unable to after following me into a steep spiral dive. He finally broke off. I landed missing some rudder, flaps and elevator pieces. Rig locked up at this point while I was sitting on the runway. Had to hard boot. :( Came back and found out we lost several of our guys to the 190’s, but we downed some and a couple of Ju-88’s.

68KO I noted the logs say I was killed. I had parked it on the runway, gear down, full stop when moments later it locked up. One less La5 kill for those vile Axis pilots.

Fun frame. :)

Agree DD, it was fun, and very even even down to the last.  Each side stayed fairly even on numbers.  You did an excellent job escorting us (USMC IL-2's) to our first target.  That was one of the easiest targets we have ever hit.  We could hardly tell there was any opposition.  I think we lost one to disco, and maybe one other before landing at A28 to rearm.

We spent some time trying to figure out what to do next.  We were instructed by Sqwiglaa to target the train near A33 for our second target.  We thought we could use our second life and take off from a friendly field closer to the target, but A20 was only slightly closer to the train than A28 was, so we would have been better off just hotpading our planes instead of going to the tower.  We had thought we could get Field A40 open which was only a sector away, but that was rejected.

Our flight from A20 was uneventfull until a sector out.  We got hit by 109's and 190's.  We had some Yak's escorting us, MAW I think, and they did well to keep about half of us in the air.  We found the train, and killed the engine, then droped the cars with bombs.  RTB with very little activity.  We had a very enjoyable time.  Nothing but good words to all that were involved. :aok

I am glad you guys had fun I try to get as much action as I can Daddog taught me well:D We also had a blast got jumped by 5 190's and he got a couple of our guys so we had 5 guys stay high and lvl for the train but when they got there they had 30k cap and got wiped out . Pour Souls lol so with those guys getting hit we regrouped after killing 190's lost 2 pilots we RTB and went back and smash the train.

I have a question about the 2nd life on the IL-2's.  It was clearly stated that we must reup in IL-2's, was this the intent?  I had not heard of a restriction on the second life of IL-2's before.  Was this a balancing change?  Just curious, and I think it was a good Idea really since the IL-2 is a pretty good plane.

I always give a 2nd life in fighter of choice, but not sure if KO had something else in mind or if the frame C.O. was wanting that.

As I read it. it gave the plane list ( IL2 pilots may have second life no more then 20 pilots in the IL2)

I always see fighter of choice in past orders. so we just left it with the IL2.  Guess I should have asked.

Sorry guys

Tracer was busy SCDR, and probably didn't see you guys in the DOW. But I did, thanks for your work in our defense. I doubt many of us would have made it with out everyone's help. I assure you TracerX did not mean to "Snub" you guys.:)

I need to apologize to the allied side. As mentioned in another thread, USMC was one over in numbers (TracerX did not count as he was assisting Sikboy as CM) This happened just as we were going to launch, with a late arrival, and bottom line, I missed it. So USMC was over by one Player. Sorry for the penalty guys.:(

As for my AAR

USMC was to attack A76. We decided to attack from two different directions, and plan worked out flawlessly. Our escorts did a fine job in keeping the Bandits occupied, Our thanks to the 332nd and the 412th, we were able to level our target. We returned to base and re-upped in our second life as IL2s to take out a train at 9,9,7. We were escorted by both the DOW and MAW (and maybe a few others that I didn't see:) ) We were able to take out the Train at 9,9,7 and make it back to A31 with minimal losses.

At first I was concerned that our escort planes in the second mission (mostly Yak 9Ts) would be out matched by the axis 190s and 109s, on paper they should have been, but our escort pilots did a fantastic job of meeting the bandits and keeping them at bay even with lesser planes. A true testament to there skills. We only lost a couple of our guys to the enemy, the fighter escort in this frame really made the difference!

I also want to commend our pilots in USMC, In the face of attacking bandits they kept there composure, let the escorts do there job, and maintained formation until necessary to avoid attacking bandits, and completed both of there missions. Basically, They were very cool under pressure. :aok

That frame was a blast guys.  Great job Damnname and Sqwiglaa!  DOW has a lot of fun in the T-34's taking out the vh's & objects at 56 and then as escorts in the yak's.  I really don't care about the points like others Sled as long as everyone had fun, you said it was a last minute thing - as far as I'm concerned don't beat yourself up about it.  Remember the battles, not the points!
