Ok need a little help here please.I run my spyware programs i have 2 adware and one from sbc yahoo.Everytime i run it this backweb downloader thing pops up noww ican delete it but when i reboot while the pc boots at the main page i get a error for no file found for this crap.My question is how do i get it totaly off my machine ????? any help would be great thanks tatertot

There wasnt an uninstall utility for Backweb? Usually is.

I mean, even though it acts like one and it does mess up your computer (IMO), Backweb is a program, not spyware. It goes into your registry, finds certain programs it recognizes, and every so often searches the home pages of the companies that put out the software for updates, then autodownloads the updates for you in the background. Great, unless you actually USE your computer and your internet connection.

What I'm saying is you had to install it. Probably it came bundled with something else you installed and you just didnt notice it. Go to your Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and see if it is in the list. If it is, tell Windows to uninstall it. No more backweb.

Backweb is also used by some antivirus programs like F-prot. It's purpose is to covertly download ads etc. in the background. I'm not 100% sure what use F-prot has for it but it's a legitimate part of it anyway.

It is legit. Well, so are alot of other things we dont like. I never have liked Backweb, and its been around for years. Mid 90s they came out with a program called Oil Change that used Backweb to update programs for you. Biggest waste of HD space. Anyway, after you uninstall the thing, I'd search the registry and the Hard Drive and delete every single file, folder, registry entry, anything that has anything at all to do with Backweb. Just to be safe. Then run your spyware/adware program and see if anything got left behind.
