P-38 475th FG/432nd FS "Florida Cracker"
« on: April 09, 2005, 08:57:11 PM »
Here are some early screenshots of my first fighter skin. Unfortunately, I'll be on a business trip all next week, so it'll be a few weeks before I can clean it up.

Special thanks to Guppy for suggesting this. His suggestion also got me an A on my 3d modelling final project (screenshots for that in another thread called P-38L Homework Help)

There are many things missing, such as the fuel caps and some of the signature under the cockpit.
However, in general, the coloration, the panel lines, squad insignias, rivets are all here. So this plane has a few minor tidbits missing. Thoughts/suggestions always appreciated

Thanks killnu =)

I didn't think I'd get to finish it before my trip, but I think I have. Here's pictures of the "final" from similar angles.
I'm going to upload this tonight, unless someone says I really boogered something on it. lol

Welcome, Florida Cracker!

Looks real nice - you've got a nice style there and it really looks like natural metal.

Very nice Knite.  The metal does look pretty damn good!  And the rivet "divet" light source shading is also well done.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Glad you like it =)

Now, a favor to ask..

CAN ANYONE TEACH ME HOW TO FLY THE DAMN THINGS?!
=)

At least with the B-24s I can fly them. I've never once got the hang of the 38. (and it's my favorite plane too =(  )

Lots of 38 drivers in this thread.  KillnU is one of the best.  CPorky is as well, though he'll deny it.  oboe's good.  I'm lousy but that's all I fly so feel free to give a holler if you see any of us up.  I'm sure folks would be glad to wing with ya and help out if we can.

You got a couple YEARS to learn? The P-38 is the most difficult plane to master of any in the AH hangar.

Master? hehehe. If someone calls me a stick stirrer, I consider that an IMPROVEMENT ;-)

I honestly can't hold my own to the experienced guys around here... I do much better in a wing, but always willing to learn =)
