The Miami Herald is running an interesting series on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the mariel boatlift.  the articles validate the view of those that maintain that immigration is the life blood and vibrancy of the United States.

125,000 Cubans.... Big Deal!

We have twice that many illegals crossing our border every year!

(last estimated average was 202k per year)

Not nearly as many Cubans were *dumped* on the US compared to the sheer numbers of Mexicans crossing the border each year with no end in sight. Far easier to assimilate 125,000 people than it is to assimilate millions.

*edit* Unless your species is The Borg. Resistance is futile, you WILL be assimilated.  :D

Besides we told the Cubans they could come here to escape Castro...no one asked for Mexico to reclaim lost territory by an illegal immigrant invasion.

Mexico is a democracy, and spreading democracy abroad is now the "raison de etre" for our invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, as I understand it.     Yet one of our closest democratic neighbors is so fluffied up that people abandon it by the millions annually.

We are already trillions in debt, and borrowing billions more to install a type of government in foreign countries that does not always even work.    The fact that we cannot even pay our own bills leads me to believe its not really working well in this country, either.

I am reliably informed that there's no illegal immigration between Zimbabwe and South Africa where the Limpopo river separates the two countries. It's not that the would be immigrants can't swim. The river is infested with crocodiles. :lol

Bigots and racists because we dont want people coming here ILLEGALLY? :rofl America cant afford millions of illegals. The estimates go as high as 20 milllion illegals here now, with more crossing the border each day. The illegals cost the gov't BILLIONS in unpaid taxes each year.

Please tell, what are the illegals *merely reciprocating what the US visited upon them in the 19th and early 20th centuries*?
