yes and no....
technically if some parties agree to go into the DA for the purpose of "dueling" in the sense of "dueling" then the rules are what the two *should* agree upon before even entering the hangar for plane selection (which should also be agreed upon) unless they're both, like, "whatever, dude."
with so many of us coming from different sims with different "old standards" of how to run a duel, it's very important things be made clear before hand.
having said that, i find these to be perfectly acceptable baseline rules:

note: i didn't watch the film.
note 2: there *are* those kind of people who will still "cheat" the rules in some manner if they think they can - a common culprit being going above agreed upon alt then diving down to it (with hella speed) before plane dot (and hence film) can capture data.
or hedging fuel load if agreed upon 50% some weenie may take 25% (which is why I always say 25% since DA fuel burn is 1:1). while not "cheating" per se, some people also dump ammo.
