Planes dont blow up just because the pilot flying it gets killed. Sure, it stands a very good chance of exploding once the plane hits the ground.

Ya but after the tenth time chasin a guy from 15k to the deck, just to see him crash...or ignoring him and seeing him pull out of the dive inches above the deck and losing the kill would get old.

you guys are missing the point.

the plane would not be possible to shoot down after the pilot was hit.

the icon would vanish also, so 'faking' it would not be possible.

the plane would still blow up with a fuel tank hit by cannon, or from fuel leak ignited etc.

I think the vanishing icon would draw too many complaints. How do you know the pilot is dead or wounded? All you know is hits landed near the canopy. Having the plane go unresponsive and fly to the gound would be damn cool, and not being able to steal the kill at that point would also be nice. It really wouldn't be that hard to dip your wing and check to see if he starts trying to recover, and you should have enough of an E advantage at that point to chase him down should he survive.

Would'nt they just have to make it so killing the pilot is the most damaging, Because, the person that gets credit for the kill is the person that does the most damage correct? So making pilot dead should provide the most damage Right? this way no icon needs to disapear, let'm shoot the plane up all they want, pilot would registar dead for who ever killed him or her and kill goes to that person, at this point plane damage for a "Kill" would be null and void except for "assist". lol, almost confused myself. hope you all get what im saying

Planes would fly for dozens of miles occasionally with dead pilots. The plane should just lose all pilot input in case of a pilot kill and continue flying just as it did in real life.

A straight flying target is then easy to blow out of the sky or let it fall naturally. There are several accounts of fights where the opponent realized the enemy pilot died when they stoped evasive movements. I remember reading one account where a pilot moved to the enemys wing to witness him collapsed and witness the crash afterwards.

It's just a waste of ammo to shoot a pilotless plane so it would bring an addition to gameplay. You could then fake death just as in real life and the enemy has an option to either potentially waste more ammo on you or risk letting you escape on last moment.

Not sure that I understand. Let's see, I shoot a pilot , say during base defense. Nothing changes except I get a kill message. The plane happens to be in fairly good trim and continues on across the base. Now tactic and the other 5 guys doing base defense see this plane, say a Tiffy. Would they not try to chase it down, wasting their ammo and drawing them out of position from the defense of the other enemy aircraft whose pilots are NOT dead?

In effect, this dead pilot becomes a decoy aircraft. Now say I'm a SH lucky pilot and I kill three pilots in this engagement? (yeah, like THATS going to happen)

why not let it fly on but icon changes to P-D (pilot dead) or just -DEAD-?
