It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

it's not some D-Day stripe but some ID stripe used in 1943 (I think) used to try to protect the Typhoon pilots from the girly (and kill greedy) spitfire pilots.

Tiffies had a white stripe added to the top of the wing just inboard of the inner cannon for air recognition.

The lower stripes (4 black(6"), 3 white(12")) were put on because the Tiffie was used for intercepting the low level jabo attacks. This helped the AA gunners distinguish the Tiffie from the Fw190s.

About 55 people and an average of 180 pounds per person yields almost 5 tons of weight.

So it is not even near its critical loading. If the center fuselage weights 2 tons it would weight pretty much at 8Gs...

That personal weight is a bit high for WW2 dontcha think....

The light color is yellow i believe...I think I have some other color shots and profiles in my archive...I'll have to check.

I  agree, 180, maybe it there were each holding 50 lbs of watered down beer & beans on toast...plus flaps are out, which as we all know reduces wing loading
