found a motorcycle to buy
« Reply #15 on: April 19, 2005, 11:36:39 AM »
i know how to ride, love riding, just have never had the money or opprotunity to buy a bike before.

i learned on 150cc off road honda, even learned to jump a bit, till i dumped on a jump, landed the bike on my leg... logging trails can be a bit tricky to land stable on.
I don't know what to put here yet.

So why a 24 year old bike?

I was thumbing thru the local sell it magazine and you can get ample cruiser or cafe bikes from 500-1500.

i have maybe $600-$800 to spend total, and here in milwaukee the home of the harley i can buy a crotch rocket for $3500, or a 30 year old bike for parts for $1000, everything else is in the $7000-$15,000 range. i have been reading the paper for a few weeks now, there just isn't much around.

not only that, but i dont want a crotch rocket or anything, just a put-put bike for errands and maybe work (16 mile trip).

for example today's list of bikes: 2 full colums of harley's, 2 bmw's, 1 buell, 16 honda's cheapest is a 1995 magna for $4000 obo, 3 kawasaki's cheapest is a 95 zx-7r for parts (crash damaged) for $1700, 1 suzuki, and 8 yamaha's starting @ $2990 for an 83 midnight maximum

the market here is if you don't have a harley, why bother riding (except the speed bike kiddies that race till they crash the bike
