Wierd problems with throttle/RPM interlinking
« on: April 18, 2005, 05:13:07 PM »
I've been experiencing wierd problems with throttle/RPM interlinked setups.

I'm not sure since when this problem existed, because I rarely flew multi-engined planes, but I've noticed it recently and did a few tests to figure out what was going on.

 ....

I use a Saitek stick with a throttle lever attached to the stick. It's probably not as precise as separate throttle quadrants like one of those CH products, but regardless of precision, it should control both engines to the same degree.

I also used the control setup feature to link the RPM controls to my throttle lever.

For instance, if I use the throttle/RPM settings mentioned in the E6B for the 190s or 109s, it would be exactly right. German planes had their throttle/RPM linked to a single lever, so since I linked them in AH as well, all I have to do is set my throttle to the right ata as mentioned in the E6B, and then the following RPM in the game would also exactly correspond. Kudos for this precision.... but I digress...

 ...

The problem is, in some multi-engined planes the throttle, RPM settings are entirely mixed up and are in more cases than not assymetrical. I've tried everything I could do set the controls right during flight, but it wouldn't work.

For instance, in the B-26B, initially, the control is symmetrical. If I push the throttle lever forward, both needles for engine 1 and 2,  in both the MP and RPM guage, will rise and fall symmetrically according to lever input.

However, if I momentarily switch control to "Engine 1", and then return to "All Engines", this time, the throttle responds as before(both needles move at the same time), but only one of the RPM needles move. It seems one of the RPM control for a certain engine(I think its engine 2) does not respond to control.

In the Bf110G-6, I've found out that the MP and RPM guage has only one needle each, and if I select engine 1, it only controls the throttle, and if I select engine 2, it only controls the RPM. Is it supposed to be like this???

Also, in the P-38s, the control is totally assymetrical. If I push the throttle up to about 50%, the MP and RPM for engine 1 is fully up to 50%, but the MP and RPM for engine 2 lags behind. The more I increase the throttle, the more engine 2 controls lag behind. Only when the throttle is completely idle, or fully open, will the output of both engines be symmetrical.

I really don't think it's got something to do with my setup... since I have only one throttle lever, it can't be about assyemtrical settings of my gear.
