It is rare when I would call an FX5200 card an *upgrade*.  The previous card would have to be pretty bad.  Much like the ATI9200SE or X300SE cards.

Joker, dig around and you can find a nice cheapy geforce 4 ti4600.
I get 74 FR in most situations in AH2. The reason I only get 74 is because my monitor is running 75HZ.

My cpu is 2.25 ghz running on a via chipset.
Sound card is an old SB live.
win98se
1 GB PC3200 ram
blah blah blah....

Thanks for the advice Ren. I returned the 5200 and found a 6600GT. Whels told me to get a 6600GT in the 1st place and I tried to save a few bucks and wasted 4 days of my time and everyone elses who tried to help me here:(

Deth7 I tried everything and just could not get that card to work. I upgraded AGP bios, new power supply, fans, reinstalled windows, all the latest drivers, new DL of AH, ect. Skuzzy even had me change my AGP aperature. The only thing that I didnt think of was maybe it was a faulty card. Just thought of that now:)

Anyway, I am gonna try this 6600GT and hope for the best.

Gonna search the boards now for the best driver, see ya up.

Joker, Just installed a 6600Gt myself, Make sure you go to nVidia and get the latest drivers, The in-the-box drivers will give you problems.

That's interesting. I have a geforce 6600GT in my 2.0 Ghz machine, SB Live, 1gb ram intel MB and I only get around 40fps at best. Although my MB only supports 4x AGP so I'm assuming that may be the problem.

Also, AGP apature 258, windows stripped down to 15 processes.

I'm running an FX5200 and seriously hate it. Only reason I'm runing it is because my mom got it for me :D

My old MX440 PCI ran a little faster than this. I think if I had the AGP version, it would have rocked socks; my motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot.

I'm building a new box next month. Anybody see any problems with this stuff? I already have the case, MB, and HDD, so no complainin' about those :aok
All of it but the sound card are on www2.newegg.com. The sound card is on www.geeks.com.

Motherboard, HDD,  Case, Video,  CPU, RAM, Fan/Heatsink, Sound

Of course, there's all the lighting and fancy do-dads that won't mess with performance. I'm not planning to overclock either.
