Any of you guys and gals use Track IR.

What do you think of it

I am thinking of buying it (might help me stay a target a little longer). :)

I'm a little curious too. I bought a Trackir from a guy on here but I haven't tried it yet. Still need Vector Expansion too. I don't think it's worth that much without it.   :p

IF your gunna do it, gotta get vector or dont bother.

If your a long time flyer, expect 2-4 months of relearning to fly, but once you do... youll be glad you did.

I got the TIR3 Pro +Vector a month ago. So far I'm not liking it. It's cool for cruising around when there's no enemies. But when the going gets hot I turn it off and go back to my hat switches.

I have these issues:

1) It makes me motion sick after about 30 minutes!

2) The check 6 view is not nearly as good as my hat 6 view.

3) I fly into the ground when low in a fight.

4) I'm getting better with gunnery, but it's hard getting used to.

I'll give it another month and if it doesn't get better I'll make ya'll a deal on it.

I have a TrackIR Pro 3D with the vector expansion pack. You will find problems with a number of the planes 6 view. You won't be able to see as well as a mapped F10 hat view. Thats why I changed back to point tracking because your rear views are pulled from your viewmap file. So what ever you set for your rear quarters, back and backup will be pulled from that file by the TrackIR when you look back.

In combat the point tracking is less confusing than the vector tracking.

The TIR vector 6 views are better than your have views could ever be!  I would guess you dont have the response curves setup very effectively.  With TIR/V you can look back and lean LEFT or RIGHT, unlike the hate view which is only one side.

Its important to setup the 'lean' response curve to have a large deadzone, but then a very quick full defection to either side.  Theres hardly ever a time that you want to lean 'just a little', its usually all or nothing....make the curves match this.   Same goes for up and down movement in the seat (verticle leaning:D ).

Watch the 6 views in action!

Well I can post it, for what its worth:p   The way I have it now is a little too sensative in the left to right, but it works well for me.  Also be sure you put your TIR/V as far away as you can (2-3 feet),  because vector uses 3 points, you need the extra distance to avoid having reflective spots go 'off camera'   Mine is about 2½ feet on the wall behind my computer desk.  Also be sure you wear you hat with clip at an angle on your head, since your unit will likely be ABOVE you a little, you want the 'center zone' yo have the hat pointed at the sensor directly, which would be a little up.  This helps avoid the sensor getting lost when you look down.

dont ask me why its named this

ALF and I have come to the same conclusion separately on how to set up your profile.

big dead zone,

And then rapid movement once your outside of the deadzone.

I have the vector controlled TrackIR and I've been having problems getting used to it. Tracking isn't that much harder, but the gunnery is much harder for me to get used to.

The only perk is that it lets me not use my throttle and switch to a multi-throttle config for my P38.

I have the TrackIR 3 Pro with Vector and I absolutely love it.  I did not like it for the first two weeks as I got used to it.  Now it is so much more enjoyable to play without using the hat switch that I used for 5 years in AW, WB and now AH.  I had a lot of years of hat switch training to overcome.

Hints.

Set the view with a big deadband in middle.

Get a chair that does not swivle, roll or tilt unless you sit fairly still while you play.  I jump all around.

Make sure you play with the IR software and get the positioning correct before you play much and get frustrated in game.

Make sure you have 2.5 feet to 3 feet from head piece to the trackir camera.

Map the reset center view to a button you reach on joystick easy and if you shift in seat like I do then hit reset before firing at enemy to be sure of lineup.  Then your gunnery is great.

Bad points:
6 View is worse but you get used to it.
I turn Trackir off in GV battle so I can carefully aim for long tank shots.
If your view locks onto your lap in game then you need to adjust the camera view it is not a TrackIR bug.

All in all I love the freedom of just looking to change my view and it makes the game more fun for me but only after retraining myself to use it.

Leaddog and Alf,

I have found that by scrunching down in my chair AND leaning forward some, and than recentering, I have as good of 6 views as with the hat switch.

Once you recenter by doing this, when you "sit up" to normal position, you accomplish 2 things:

1. your sitting all the way up in the seat at the highest point.

2. When you check 6, it automatically puts the back of your virtual head on the gunsight so you have the optimal rear view.

It takes some playing with to get it right, and each plane has a different "center".

Do you do this too?
