I had a similar problem when we moved into an old house on an even older golf course that abuts the everglades. we were killing 5-9 mice a day with my sheridan pellet gun.  at some point they moved away.  mice are smart I guess.  i kind of miss them they were fun to shoot.  it got to point where my son and i were betting on which eye we would hit.  first get a pellet gun then cats would be my suggestion.  curval is correct cats don't need to be indoors and feed them just enough to keep them around that way they'll hunt.

There's alot, and I mean alot of hawks around. I think that keeps the critters at bay. The problem is I completely gutted the house and have 2 more rooms to completely tighten up, until then they get into the house from the crawl space under the house( single story Rancher). My neighbor's cat and another cat is always in my yard. One is a siemese (sp) the other is a big hugh orange tabby. The Tabby keeps getting attacked by the hawks. In fact I haven't seen the Tabby around in quite awhile. But I did notice the Hawks look alittle fatter.
