Had some trouble on my system due to this prog.

Hang ups, blue screen, reboot....

Read somewhere that it even created probs for people with XP until service pack 2.

Any info/news re this prog?

disbaled it.

Are you referring to the Human Interface Device?  I always turn it off, but it seems some devices do require it to run.

OK looked at msconfig again.

It's named HIDSERV and it caused some problems on my system.

Disabled it in Msconfig for now.  Read something about it causing problems prior to service pack 2 for XP.

Also read that no fix available for 98 or ME.

Wrag,

If I turn it off I cannot use my USB Saitek X45. It is required for some types of USB pointing devices.

Hmmm...

Using 98se here and never had HIDSERV until I purchased a gamers keyboard that wanted it.

I do have human interface devices within my system, and no problem with em, but this HIDSERV is something else I think.

It has a place all for itself in MSCONFIG.

Question,

Does the gamers keyboard plug into the usb port?

If so then I believe it goes along with what Bustr said.  Saitek uses this to interface key programming between their software and the input devices ie' keyboard, hotas, and mouse.

When I connected my Saitek X45 to this system it did NOT install HIDSERV.

It installed human interface devices but it did not install the program named HIDSERV.

Oops guess I should have been clearer about this.

HIDSERV is a program that is installed by some software.

It is something seperate from the normal Human Interface Devices you find in the system area.

Read in a couple of places that it created problems for allot of people prior to the Service Pack 2 release.

Also there is no fix for Windows 98SE.
