Ok, updated from last years 2004, and should have posted this a while back, but no time...so here it is now.

What are the tricks with this software NOT to mess with my game, running in the background ect?

other than disabling it for 15mins, 1 hour 5 hours or whatever, thats all I think of....but then it pops up while im playing saying im not protected against a b and c viruses...

yeah..did that when I started, but it keeps sending that message back to me..causing major lagooollla

anyone working with this same software?

I use and leave it on - occasionally it'll dump me back to desktop but not often enough to turn it off

killed me 3 times in last couple months....turn off update and that damn auto scan.

Just a question for those of you who DO run A/V while you are online gaming. Why? Is it just because you dont want the hassle of turning it on and off? Or because you feel you derive a benefit from it? Honest question, I'm not knocking anyone who does either. I just want to know your reasoning for leaving it on.

Turning AV off is safe while on AH I know, but turning off firewall is not. If your firewall turns off when you turn off AV it may be a problem.

Am I right in thinking if you are online, doesn,t matter how safe the site, you can be hacked and attacked?

No, you are incorrect FOGOLD, to an extent. The best way to run the firewall, assuming no other games other than Aces High, is to only block inbound ports 1000 and less.
This catches all the ports Windows has open, and allows Aces High to run unabated.

The only way anyone can break into a computer (providing you are up to date on the Windows security patches) will happen when you have an open port that is in the LISTENING state (run netstat -an to see what the states of the open ports are).

I run all the spyware checks to make sure nothing else is connecting to the outside world, turned off auto-update completely and just right click the tray icon, select "Disable AntiVirus Auto-Protect," right click again, select "Disable Norten Internet Security." On both boxes select "Until System Restart." Wait for the "You are unprotected" thing to show up, click OK, and start the game.

When you're done, right click it and select the "Enable" versions of the above.
