I don't know.

They look too fat to be warships. Look to me more like troop ships or freighters.

I'm gonna guess this is one of those friendly fire incidents where US planes bombed ships that unknowingly had prisoners aboard.

I don't have any names or dates but I remember reading about a few of this type of incident.

Actually thats better than yiu could ever really hope for, considering it was level bombers against moving ships.

Amazes me how fat the ships look.  I think of cruisers and BBs being sleak, but they really are quite tubby.
